That attitude right there is exactly why unions have gone away. In no way does the guy on his first day deserve the same pay as the guy doing the job for the last 20 years.

Can you please explain why an employer should pay PERSON A and PERSON B differently, if their job titles and roles are identical?

The guy who's been there 20 years has proven that he can do the job reliably and without ####ing everything up for the last 20 years. The new guy may not show up ever again after the first day.
Now I'm not saying the new guy should be donating his time but he also has not earned the same pay rate as someone who's been there for 20 years. Paying everybody the same rate regardless of time on the job or quality of work done is exactly why unions have gone downhill. A union job used to mean you were actually a decent worker who wasn't paid what they should have been, that's not what it means anymore.snowman1980, Crude Truckin', Gearjammin' Penguin and 9 others Thank this. -

Not to twist the whole of the subject. But Unions sadly spend their money on a party that I don't support. So dues paid into said union would be in a sense. Making the country worse. IMO
Unions don't see how they harm things. Like back after 9/11. When the big motor companies here. Asked if, for a short time, they could negotiate things down. Instead of taking a bail out from the gubberment. They pretty much said nope. We want all our Cadillac benefits and pensions. So suck it up buttercup. Literally unions are why US cars cost more than imports from Japan and other similar countries.
It's why that guy won the lawsuit in the last couple of years. He was able to not have to pay into the union dues. Because the Union leaders were using it to help fund the campaign of the party opposite of the guy's chosen party.

Quality of work/finished product... Its as simple as that.
If 2 welders are tasked with building identical machines and the experience guy can build 10 of those machines in a week while the inexperienced one can only build 5 machines in a week... Should they be paid the same hourly rate? They are doing the same exact job, but one is making the company twice as much revenue. Therefor, I believe he should be paid more.
Everyone being paid exactly the same for the same job is part of what has created a lazy workforce. There is no incentive to become the cream of the crop. And I don't believe there are "classes" of people. There are people who work, and there are those who dont.
I work, I'm proud of my work, I do the best I can do every time. This mentality has benefitted me time and time again... Pay raises above many if not most of my coworkers, offers of advancement, my skill set has increased, and I am highly sought after by those who know me or have heard of me. In the last 2 years I have been contacted directly by phone call by nearly a dozen seperate companies that wanted me to work for them (mostly non trucking companies). Most couldnt offer everything I wanted, although all tried very hard by offering alot of money. And they all knew who I was because they had seen or heard of my work... Not some online profile or call list.
It's not all about money.... benefits, location, working conditions, flexability, and many other things all play very heavily into what I consider a good job.
If I cant walk into a place and get an in person interview without first filling out a bunch of paper work... Then i dont want to work there.Crude Truckin', Gearjammin' Penguin, Another Canadian driver and 9 others Thank this. -
what about if we charge the same $ dollar amount per mile as the price of fuel is per gallon? We can use that as basic dollar amount to start negotiating, can we agree on that ? If we do that , most likely, oil companies will think twice before raising Deasel's price at the pump, don't you think ? it is just an idea.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
