I agree that just because someone is up in age (70), does not mean the are over the hill as far as trucking is concerned. I know a few geezers who are still driving, they like it, and are good at what they do. Sure with age you can't do some of the things you could do when younger but a lot of what you do, you do smarter. I'm 64 and feel like at 68, 69, 70, whatever, I would have no problem doing the job I was doing in 2020, when I retired.

i do not have my CDL anymore, and don't want it back.

i have been "contemplating" seeking a job as a sweeper driver, of a non-CDL truck. the company has an ad on the local radio station, and they work nights, sweeping parking lots.

thing is though, they run that ad quite frequently, and it is a mom/pop/son operation...

so i dunno.....

i like not answering to no one any more, but i get bored, and as it is, after like 48 years of night time driving..??

i don't sleep well at night.

i thought i'd have adjusted to a "normal life" after these past few years of retirement.

 

I guess it took me close to 6 months before I slept right. Took a long time to get to sleep without the sound and feel of a reefer.

 

hey buddy, i been retired now what...3 years..?? (i gotta look that up, i forget) still cannot sleep at night.

still get up automatically at 4AM every day... i used to get home like between 5 and 6 each day....

it's a royal PITA.

OFFICIAL RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT......!!!!!!!

Last day of gainful employment is now set for Friday, March 29th, 2019 (which actually means, when I get back from my route on Saturday morning)

I can at least say, I put in 48 years....That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

lol...so yeah, been out 3 years now......

 

Oh, all the bonus points for "adieu" instead of "ado." Top-notch.

 

I was one foot out of the industry at 35 years old, when I put in an application at my current company.

I didn't think they were going to hire me, and then I got a phone call from human resources the very next morning, bright and early.

Talk about a crossroads. I'm glad it went the way it did. Trucking is pretty sweet, at the right-fit company.
