I park at rest areas every night and I've never been booted. NC, VA, FL, SC, GA, MD, WV, OH, WI, MN, OH, AL, IL, NJ, TN. Those are the states I've parked at rest areas in with no hassle.

On the no overnight parking, it doesn’t mean we can’t park. It means use that parking spot for only resting and don’t make that area a Permanent place to stay.
I think they need to explain those signs better.

Just park in a way that covers up the no parking sign.

Stay for 8 hours and get your sleep. PC to another place to park to finish out 10-hour break. You are completely legal on both sides of the equation (obeying posted sign and adhering to HOS). When you log PC, that qualifies as an off-duty status, so as not to start your clock again. You are justified for moving the truck in PC because there is a posted sign telling you to not exceed 8 hours at that location.

While I seriously doubt one will ever get a violation for that, it's not actually legal.
You can only move PC for 3 reasons.
    1. True personal use.
    2. Getting told to move by an leo
    3. After loading/unloading move to the nearest safe location. Note two things. Nearest safe location may be the shipper/reciever, may not. But it has to be after being loaded/unloaded. Parking in one spot and then moving isn't a valid use.

    No.

I have seen the "No overnight parking" signs in the truck parking sections of rest areas before.

I have always just ignored the signs and taken 10 hr breaks there anyway. DOT has never bothered me.

    tscottme Thanks this.
