Does anyone works for Sherwin-Williams??

Day 2 of orientation. Going over SOP's and being fed well for 2nd day. Found out we even get paid for fueling.

 

I seen a sherwin Williams truck at the anhauser bush plant

 

I responded on the other thread, but so people are aware the regional/otr guys will pick up backhauls when available.

 

Well how was orientation? What are your next steps?

 

2 days of training this week. delivered 2 standalone stores in Houston, along with a Lowes, now just waiting on backhaul. These Volvos take some getting used to how they steer compared to Freightliner or Kenworth.

Next week will also be all local routes training, learning the paperwork etc..

 

So did 4 deliveries in Houston yesterday morning, as well as 1 pickup. Locations were tight, but if you follow directions they can be managed. Most of the freight I was tailgating, and the store personnel removed the pallets from the trailer. Our first stop was an "early store" meaning to get in and out you need to be there before adjacent businesses get busy. We were there roughly 45 minutes before their personnel arrived, and used our tailgate to get everything neatly setup prior to their arrival.

I'm still looking more at being a road guy (less stops more miles), but something you'll find fast is that there's money to be made as you're paid for everything you do. Fueling, unloading, waiting, miles, etc... we have several guys over the 100/yr mark out of this DC. Nearly everyone from the office to the drivers, to the warehouse actually seem like they want to be there.

 

Crazy isn't it? I didn't know company culture was a thing until I started working here. Did you know SW's CEO started as a manager trainee and worked his way up? I've not met the man but I bet he'd be just as friendly as most everyone else.

Just wait until you can't arrive to one of those "early" stores until 1500. Chaos. LOL

 

I'm so used to the negativity of megas, and even did food service in Denver with McLane making less for more work. I know some major curves are coming, but something I didn't mention for those new guys is that we have a database to access maps and instructions in and out of locations. Pair it with Google Earth and it can help with planning.

 

Modern tech definitely makes the job easier although google earth can be deceptive (ask me how I know). Eff still uses a physical direction book. If no one updates the book, you can have outdated directions without realizing it. There have been a few times I've been going to a store for the first time, following directions to the T, and immediately after turning into the plaza realizing, oh hell naw! That's why I always suggest making friends with someone that's been here a few years. 99% are easy once you've been there a time or three.

 

Yup. I've got numbers from a couple of guys already. My trainer has been happy with me thus far, despite my sciatica slowing me down. He says I'm hustling more than guys who aren't limping around or laying in the floor to stretch.
