Per the state of alabama laws I can legally drive any truck as long as I am ONLY hauling my own property(which I take doesn't include hauling it sell it like grain or trade day junk).Situation.I will be driving my GMC General hauling a Flatbed or a box van every once in a while while hauling my army trucks to shows(there is something to be said about actually being able to pass a SWIFT TRUCK!!!!).Would my home state exeption work out of state if I was hauling my trucks to shows and rallies out of state NOT for payment,Prizes, trophies, etc?I though I was told a while back reciprocy counts for drivers license requirements.Kinda like they can't write me a ticket for not having a front license,No inspection sticker, etc in other states that require it.

You'd be o.k. on the license but get the DOT inspection . I know of a member on another forum that uses his truck for similar purposes . I'll see if I can get any more info from his posts .

That is what I thought.I will have to figure out where I can get a DOT inspection here.I KNOW those Biasply tires ain't gonna pass inspection. They are a better part of a decade old and tread pattern is somewhere between super Swampers and Iroks plus rolling on split rim daytons, all the marker lights have been removed, the horns and mirrors are off,etc......But it is a hobby truck and the parts come with it so I can fix or upgrade all that before I put it in service.Gives me a blank canvas of sorts.

    General applicability and definitions

    §390.3 General applicability.

    (f) Exceptions. Unless otherwise specifically provided, the rules in this subchapter do not apply to—
    (f)(3) The occasional transportation of personal property by individuals not for compensation nor in the furtherance of a commercial enterprise;

    General requirements and information

§390.33 Commercial motor vehicles used for purposes other than defined.
Whenever a commercial motor vehicle of one type is used to perform the functions normally performed by a commercial motor vehicle of another type, the requirements of this subchapter and Part 325 of Subchapter A shall apply to the commercial motor vehicle and to its operation in the same manner as though the commercial motor vehicle were actually a commercial motor vehicle of the latter type.
Example: If a commercial motor vehicle other than a bus is used to perform the functions normally performed by a bus, the regulations pertaining to buses and to the transportation of passengers shall apply to that commercial motor vehicle.

In other words, you still have to abide by the load, and truck requirements. Lights, straps, exhaust, blah blah blah.

wonder if I have to keep a log book since I won't be commercial...same with a health card. The straps and chains deal ain't an issue.I will do overkill with any load I haul.Last thing I want to see in my side window is my truck pass me.It ain't fun running down a deuce and a half when it is un-manned......

If you are not commercial you aren't subject to FMCSR . No log book or medical card required . I'd get a medical card though just to avoid conflict with an LEO that doesn't know the regulations . There are too many of them out there .

Does your truck size require you to have a CDL?

    (1) Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight, of 4,536 kg (10,001 pounds) or more, whichever is greater

If it does, then you need a Med card.

BTW, there is no requirement for prostate check, and no needles involved in a DOT Phys.

You're young enough you shouldn't have any concern but often tests will reveal something that is curable when dealt with soon but would be terminal if detected only when symptoms appear .
My doctor took regular tests and told me I was in excellent health . A year and a half ago I took an insurance company physical to increase my coverage . I was rejected because the level of PSA indicated likely prostate cancer . Although I had regular blood work the doctor never tested for PSA .
A biopsy confirmed there was cancer but early detection and surgery resulted in a cure . I had surgery last February and followup tests show no sign of cancer .
Reading urology forums I read a post by a woman whose father was in his mid 40's and went to a urologist thinking he had a urinary infection . Testing showed he had advanced prostate cancer that was beyond the curable stage and he had less than a few months to live .
For cancer to be that far advanced at that age is unusual but testing is recommended for men in their 40's if they are African American or have history of prostate cancer in your family .
Viet Nam veterans should get Agent Orange testing at the VA . Prostate cancer has been linked to Agent Orange and you could be eligible for compensation .
Bottom line , a little discomfort with an examination and testing now could eliminate considerable discomfort later and possibly save your life .
