My question is of commercial trailer braking that seems to be computer controlled, considering no trucker in his semi-stable mind (see what I did there, lol) is going to invoke trailer brakes going UP a dern hill.
Obviously it's about speed control, but jeez, is there not anything more efficient a system can do than to apply brakes going up hill?
Is my assumption of this correct?
Thanks,
Tumbleweed

I'm unaware of any commercial trailer that has computer controlled trailer brakes. Many newer trucks do come equipped with a collision mitigation system that will automatically slow or brake the entire tractor trailer to maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle in front. This only works when the cruise is set.
The trailer brakes can't be operated independently without the air connections to the power unit.
Unless some companies have put a high tech anti theft braking system in their trailers, which I highly doubt. There are simpler, cheaper ways to prevent trailer theft. -
Hey all that made perfect sense.
I'm probably just not seeing the tractor lites due to their position.
Next time I see this, I'll look in front of that tractor lane.
Thanks!snowlauncher Thanks this. -
Are you sure the brakes are being engaged, or just the lights. I had a new Pete 579 that if the engine brake was activated ( lifting off the gas) it would apply the brake lites to signal the vehicle behind of slowing even tho brakes were not applied.

@SMK Shoe
Now that ya mention it, I really don't think the brakes are engaging, the lites are on only for a second or two, very randomly.
The jake envoking them makes sense also, downhill, but I also see this happening during ascending slight grade, wherein snows post would come in.
I'm glad our new M2 rollback doesn't do this, what my truck lights do are my dern control by gawd, lol.
