I am planning to take a trip over to the haul (Teamsters) the job is for deliveries to gas stations but what I'm hoping is to be able to get enough experience and join ABF down the road. Still unsure due to my lack of knowledge of the trucking world.

JB offers 70k year regional 5 days out with 34hr reset. That's a ton of dough.. but after reading the jb hunt driver reviews on this forum I'm a bit concerned. If you get a chance you should check them out. They are all bad.
Honestly I just want to get good behind the wheel so that some day I can get a great driving job. I'm hoping a year running local deliveries in a t/t is applicable enough to move forward into the hire paying positions.

I'm probably going to hold off and gain experience. I wanna do it right and get in with a strong company with good quality equipment and a solid work to life ratio. I'm hoping experience will open the doors.

What is the pay and benefits of the union job. If you moved up the ladder in seniority would you "have to" move somewhere else to get a better paying job or do you already know that you can do better than the fuel job

You could rephrase the question to “union driving job vs the worst trucking company out there “ and you’d basically be asking the same thing

Take the Union job. It’s a no brainer. Work for wages, benefits will probably be decent and very affordable. Don’t count on the pension. Many who did, got burned at retirement time, only getting half or less than promised. Keep every pay stub forever, you’ll need them to prove your time. I’m very serious, they have a way of denying you time, claiming they have no records. Sometimes the Companies pay less than required, and there is no record. Unfortunately the Union has figured out ways to get Leadership 2&3 pensions, while ripping others off. If you stay a few yrs. you may be able to lock in any time. Used to be 10 yrs. I hear now it’s less. Maybe someday you’ll get a little check. Maybe move on to another Teamster Job. Pension earned follows you, each jobs time goes towards retirement. It’s not uncommon for someone getting a full 35 yr. pension, to have earned the yrs. at multiple companies. I’d go for the Union Job, if only for better pay, though it may be a harder job than others. Don’t count on the pension, no guarantees. You may or may not get anything depending on jobs in the future. Consider anything you may get as extra. Maybe you’ll get lucky, and someday draw a check from it. They usually expect you to earn every penny. Unlike so many Big Non Union Companies that don’t expect or want much more than a brain dead Employee who can follow directions.
