Let us hope that was the case. He may have had nothing else left, maybe outlived his wife and was doing what he still loved.
It happens in other professions too. He could just as well been a rancher or a grocer.

I haven't seen anything on here about the trucker from Ohio that killed his partner in Buffalo NY this week. Hope companies take a hard look when drivers tell them that they have a problem with their partners.

Local Trucker Accused Of Killing Partner In New York

    Mark Bruce, Reporter

BUFFALO, New York -- A Miamisburg woman believes her fiancé's death, allegedly at the hands of his co-worker, could have been prevented.
Robert Hardy was killed in his tractor trailer near Buffalo, New York Wednesday afternoon. At first, New York State Police thought it was just an accident, until they found Hardy dead in the cab.
Police arrested his co-driver, Rudy Arnette of West Carrollton, and charged him with murder. Officers believe the men got into an argument, and Arnette allegedly beat and stabbed Hardy to death.
Hardy's fiancé Cindy Flora said, "When the police said they needed to talk to be about relationships, most people would ask what for. I knew it was about Rudy. He needed help. He had issues beyond belief."
Flora said said the two never got along. She said Hardy asked for a new partner weeks ago and was actually supposed to get one soon.
Flora said, "Robert could get along with anybody. With Rudy, there was no getting along with no matter how hard you try. Robert didn't trust him. He was not stable."
Flora said she hopes Hardy's employer, Falcon Transport Company, will take lessons away from what she calls a tragic incident that could have been prevented.
She said, "They need to test drivers. You just can't put two guys together in a truck and hope it works out. It won't work and this is the result."
Flora and Hardy were set to wed March 13.

LOL! that's funny, you told him.

Ruh-Roh, I hope falcon doesn't put me with a knife carrying lunatic...On the other hand, I was always taught never to bring a knife to a gun fight.:biggrin_25523:

The gentleman who taught me to drive was in his 70's. He dearly loved driving, and loved teaching even more. It was his passion, and I consider myself to be very fortunate that I was his student.

I hope this man loved what he was doing as much as O'Dell loved it.... May he rest in peace.

First driver I ever rode with was 77. He was taking me to Atlanta to pick up my first truck following training. Easy going...seen it all...didn't get flustered. Good guy and a good driver.

You could not be more wrong there, nor more insensetive.
Here is a man, a driver, who in the last moments of his life pulls his rig off the road onto the shoulder insuring the safety of his co driver and others. That is nothing less than heroic inmy book, and that is exactly the type of drivers that should be behind the wheel of an 80,000lbs big rig.

My prayers for this mans family and my gratitude for his heroic actions in the last moments of his life which spared the death or injury of others.

lucky for him is more like it.. would you be saying the same thing if his heart failed while doing 70 mph on a crowded interstate during rush hour? or while merging on a off ramp and flipped the load? at 70 years old if your life's ambition is truck driving then perhaps it time to buy a driving simulator and have fun in a safe environment like your home, not at the public's expense on the open road.

once again this boils down to not whether or not in all his ageless wisdom he or any other senior citizen can "drive circles around me" but rather at 70 yrs old should he even be trying to run circles around me at the public safety's expense when common sense dictates otherwise.. 65 is a retirement age for a reason although not everyone may be ready to "retire. There are plenty of jobs more suited for senior citizens then hauling 80K pound death machines at highway speeds which require quick reaction times, sharp wits and keen eyesight, especially in adverse weather conditions and night driving.

There is nothing insensitive about telling someone their limitations when common sense dictates it.. i suppose you're one of "those" people that also believes women are the same "physically" as men and should be allowed to enter demanding military combat roles together because a couple of higher than normal testosterone-induced, low estrogen count she males or lesbian butches were able to do 50 push ups? :biggrin_25526:

and that's fine for a closed course environment like in a driving school training yard or a classroom environment where his knowledge could benefit everybody and doesnt require the same demanding aspects or requirements of driving OTR in a solo or team situation.
