    ! Let go from Werner after causing an accident ("failure to stop at a red light")

    Looking For
    * an extended drive / off schedule (for every two days on one off e.g. 20 days on 10 off)
    * any trailer type (van, reefer, flat, etc.)
    * not driving in the North East (but am based here so getting back once per month would be nice but not necessary)
    * dedicated or at least not a new place every stop
    * no need for home weekly or nightly
    * no manual restriction but would need some training / experience
    * (recently turned down from oil sands job after poor driving test on manual, so maybe this isn't the best option)
    * preferred non combination or shorter than 53'

    Me
    * no automatic transmission restriction
    * tank & hazmat endorsements
    * first received my CDL 2012 but:

    * began driving this year again in February
    * went to Roadmaster for a "refresher" – 01/22
    * worked for Werner from 02/22-07/22
    * OTR dry van USA + Canada
    * let go by Werner for a traffic collision and traffic citation received in 06/22
    * no injuries/fatalities
    * clean and detail orientated
    * mechanically competent

    * 8+ years operating and maintaining industrial refrigeration plants onboard ships
    * physically fit
    * jobs involving manual work ok (e.g. flatbed)

    I think not obeying traffic regulations is a big plus for a CDL resume.

    If you can fail a drug test too after the fact, even more doors open up. Do it all while texting and you’re on the fast track to management buddy.

    Failure to stop at a red light while operating a 40 ton vehicle is catastrophically bad. Be thankful that you didn't kill someone and find another career. I just don't want to see a driver make that same mistake after a non-injury incident, but the next time it's a fatality. My suspicion is raised, and I am curious as to why you left trucking the first time. Incident on the road get you fired during your previous run? Not trying to be judgemental, but when you come seeking advice, you will get varying opinions back. If you did have an incident all those years before when you were driving, I strongly suggest staying out of any employment position that involves operating a vehicle, and with that I mean forklift, heavy equipment, electric pallet jack, CMV, Uber, etc. Please don't give yourself a 3rd chance to kill someone (going with my suspicion that you had an incident when you drove before).

    I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw the "looking for" section.

    Thanks for your reply, no I hadn't had any incidents/accidents before but did not drive for very long, a non-driving opportunity became available to me so I took it at that time. While driving I make it a point to not speed, do a thorough pre-trip inspection, research the route, etc. and just make every attempt to be a "good driver". Being dispatched to a new location OTR for every stop adds a lot of stress to this job and it seemed like 85%+ of the hauls I was sent on would come with some some kind of issue (wrong GPS direction, wrong address, sent to location for a live load when it's closed for the day, multiple break-downs requiring a tow and week long hotel stay in BFE with minimal pay, delivery being canceled before I arrive, wrong appointment times, where's the office for paper work, etc., plus all of the regular problems like parking, backing in tight DCs made for day cabs and yard trucks). A big mistake I made was not switching to another account or looking for another company to work with before this happened. Maybe there is another kind of CDL job that suits me, or maybe not.

    I guess some good advice for new drivers is that there are actually a lot of options even with a few months experience, so if you don't like what you are doing go to sites like this or job boards smash out a resume and a actively look for something different. Don't wait until you have an accident, because after that point if you thought you didn't have many options before they become a lot less after.

    Sorry to say, but there is only one thing that prevents a driver from stopping at a red light and that is distracted driving. There is only one thing that cures distracted driving: Remove the distraction. Either you recognize the need to not drive distracted or you don't. It doesn't matter what you are driving, what you are hauling, where you are going, nor how many times you have been to where you are going. If you are distracted, you will hit something. I don't expect you to tell this community what it was that distracted you to prevent you from stopping at the red light. I do know that I don't want drivers like yourself on the road. Please find another profession before you kill someone.
