well that is certainly better than losing it all. here in wva you get no last check if you owe your company anything. most of the time with my business it was uniforms that weren't turned in, or employee loans. you really have no other way to recover your money.

You CDL is safe. I see you in Va. and according to Va. law only the items that you have signed for can legally be taken out of your paycheck. There is no way that Swift or anyother company can withhold your paycheck, legally. With that said, you will probably be wise to contact a lawyer because Swift will most likely pull this stunt. Except child support, everything else that comes out of your paycheck needs your signature, even taxes.
As far as your DAC goes, dont go through life worrying about stuff like this. Sure, Swift will put a bad report in and you will wind up having a hard time finding another driving job with a carrier that does business with DAC. Find a carrier that does not subscribe to DAC, there are plenty around Richmond, Va. DAC doesnt rule the trucking world. -
Thank you all for your responses .... plenty to think about.

I believe the schools loans are ran through finance companies, so they will hit you up for payment or balance due. I'm sure it will be a default % rate and interest added to the loan. As others have said, they have no control over your CDL. As Far as your DAC, should not be a problem, come on its SWIFT putting the bad mark, and others will consider that it was SWIFT based on their rep. Now if you bounce from knight, then maybe another company, people will start thinking maybe the problem lies within you....
Do research on the company thoroughly before you run into another problem like SWIFT. Your Truck issue? Personally, Id drive it back to the location of my personal vehicle, do as was posted do a FULL PTI with a supervisor and get him to sign your copy and get in yout car and drive home. If you drop it at another terminal and "quit" your on your own to get home....
Your last check depends on state to state, but some states they cannot withold your pay unless you have signed some type of security deposit, IE company keys, vehicle, etc. You will have to check state law for that.
Good luck, should have done research on SWIFT before signing on, you would have avoided a be MESS!! -
Glad to see that companies use that "We will take your CDL away threat" CRE tried that to our class (along with the 'if you turn 1900rpm you'll blow your turbo')
Heck, CRE hasn't even tried to contact me after I left their company. -
ya i started with good ole swifty as well and they tried that same thing as soon as i signed my contract in good ole millington was only 3 grand when i got mine though and well to answer your question considering how much money they screwed me out of no i never paid them its not on my credit report and every dot inspection i have ever had shows me having a (somewhat) clean license in other words you have nothing to worry about
oh ya if you wanna mess with them mail them 1$ a month -

Knobs.Seems you have gotten yourself into a predicament with good old Swift.I also did a short stint with Swift in early 2006,as an experienced driver. It didnt take very long for me to realize it wasnt the right place for me.The best advice I can offer you is to stick around with Swift long enough to fulfill your obligation with them, then get the [####] out of there and hook up with a better company. As you have probably read in some of the posts here Swift is definitly considered the worst of the big companies out there. As far as big companies go Schneider seems to be pretty good.I have talked with Schneider drivers who are very satisfied with them.I am presently driving for Roehl, which is head and shoulders above Swift in driver satisfaction. You are on the right sight here to get a lot of inside info on most of the truckin companies out there.Best of luck to you.

Remember two words: Labor Board.
If Swift tries to hold your last check, file a wage claim at the labor board office in Richmond.
Hey, Sad--you mean those guys at CRE made such a lame threat in the training class? Man.....if I'd have been there, I'd have walked out.
These are the reasons one goes CHEAP on his training school. Never go that route that requires you to sign a piece of paper in exchange for "free" training. I guess you guys know why now, right?
Man, we have GOT to get the word out to more people about Swift and other POS companies. I've been posting here for nearly ten months and I keep on seeing the same old posts over and over and over and over and over and over. Different posters mind you, but the posts are always the same when it comes to those outfits. We have to do better if we're gonna steer people clear of the rotten apple companies. -
