I am telling you that this means they were not in a driving position for some years. Think about it. One of the main things that drivers who haven't been driving regularly struggle with is backing. Local drivers do more backing than any other drivers. If a local driver already has OTR experience, hasn't gotten out of the truck for any significant length of time, what possibly could that driver need to learn from a trainer? Why would an experienced driver who has continued driving agree to go out with a trainer? Sorry, but your story doesn't flesh out. Again, I have heard of a driver doing OTR, going local, stepping away from driving for some years, and THEN having to go out with a trainer for a short period because it has been a lengthy period since the driver last drove a class A. I am willing to bet that these guys you are referencing, they had a scenario of that sort. Or, their OTR experience was rather brief.

Update:
Well I was pre-hired with Knight Transportation but because i'm a big guy,I would need to take a sleep apnea test. Knight requires it if your BMI and neck size is an certain size/number. So after spending few days calling different companies,A lot of companies mostly megas are not hiring drivers in Florida. So I called Heyl Trucking and after speaking with them,it looks like they might consider hiring me.So as of this writting,i'm just waiting on my app to review and waiting for a call.MartinFromBC and Boondock Thank this. -

Update:
Well Knight is out,I know that they're going to make me do a sleep test because of my BMI and neck size. So at the moment it's going to be Heyl where I'll end up going although I've spoken with Windy Hill but the turn off for me is that they have older trucks and they want you out at min 21 days if you live in Florida. Heyl can get me home every 14 days but I don't mine being out 21 days but I like to have the option to get home after 14 days if I needed to. Heyl told me theirs no sleep test and they'll accept my current DOT med form. Looking at heading out the first week of Sept, just waiting on a non smoker trainer.MartinFromBC, Kolorado, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this. -
