I heard about this on lockridge. Bose is well known for extremely in-depth research, I hope their claims come to fruition in the real world.

yeah, i heard it too, and looked it up, and based on what the guy was saying on the lockridge report, this is going to be something NICE to have.. but if i heard this correctly, they wanna sell it to bigger fleets first then owner ops? is that correct???
-
Bigger fleets wont buy anything Bose. LOL. They're the guys that talk people into paying $200 for headphones when $50 gets you a darn nice set.

Read the article online at Fleet Owner. I don't see them really going anywhere soon with those seats. Initially, they are only going to market on a volume basis to fleets starting in March. They wouldn't say what they would cost, but the spokesman for Bose said they would be under $10,000. Fleets are going to pay almost $10,000 for a seat in a truck? Yeah, Right! Bose is really rolling up that high quality smoke in the backrooms now for sure! Except for an occasional O/O that just has to spend his money on the latest gadget, I can't see Bose really selling many of those seats. I read the article and thought I can sure handle a lot of road vibration before the need to shell out that much cash. But then I started out on an old cab over freightliner years ago that would really turn your insides into jello.
I realize that driver comfort is a big deal overall, but even the OEM's are starting to put a lot of extra junk in new trucks that I would just as soon not pay for and I can't see as really making my life that much more easier. They want to install anti rollover technology, NORAD collision avoidance devices, and God knows what else. I would rather not pay for that junk. I know how to keep a truck from rolling over. I don't text or play with any GPS, so I know how to avoid a collision. That NORAD device is not going to help if someone decides to run that red light and T bone my truck anyway. I am not worried about fog and snow, I know how to reduce my speed. After several years running ice fog in Alaska, I think I got a handle on that. Now they want to sell me seats that are meant for the space shuttle? How about they start building solid, reliable trucks and forget some of the fluff. Heck, it is getting harder than ever to just properly clean a windshield with the way they are designing trucks. I love technology, but it isn't a cure all for everything and sometimes just not worth the cost.
Good luck with that one, Bose.Last edited: Jan 28, 2010

Wow, a shock with a wire connected to it and a cheap box labeled "sensor" to prevent a seat from going all the way up on a bump (which I have never had happen). Nice try tho, CLC. -
the company that builds that cheap box is the same company who build's the electromagnetic suspension's for cadilac and a few other car company's along with supplying aerospace industries with motion control devices.
the shock in the link used to be advertised in trucking magazines but they took it off the market due to low demand. from what i understand they prefer to deal in large volumes which seems to match the bose marketing plan.
looking at pics of the bose seat it appears to be a regular air ride seat with a special cushion and a electromagnetic shock, possibly the same shock seen in the link.
bose probably has a great seat but just under $10000 for a special shock and cushion?
go crank up your bose "WAVE" radio -
Kevin Rutherford was saying they'll probably be around 5 grand, perfectly affordable to the owner operator. I have a hard enough time shelling out $3500 for new drive tires, which are a necessity let alone a freakin seat!

Well, you're free to think what you like. They will be at the Louisville truck show if anyone wants to test it themselves.
-
If they're anything like Bose speakers they'll be twice the price for the same old stuff.
