Should not be grinding noises when double clutching.

Especially compared to a mechanical Cat. There is quite a difference between our 6nz and the B models.

Should not be grinding noises when shifting, period.

Grinding noises are the answer to " how did they know there was a problem?"

Only thing worse than grinding is bogging. I see people in long nose trucks get stuck on hills a lot cause they get on with mom and pop fleets straight out of school

The OP stated he wasn't comfortable floating. I assumed he is comfortable double clutching. Then you suggest that his company knew he was double clutching because of grinding noises. .

Don't you suppose that the OP might have had someone riding with on a test drive that saw him double clutching?

It's possible. It's more likely that the OP was grinding the gears - clutch or no. There are a lot of 'experienced' drivers who think the transmission making noise as you put it into gear is 'normal' and 'fine'.

I just had my 13 speed rebuild. Besides the typical rebuild, he installed 3rd and 4th gears brand new. I’m having trouble getting those gears in the hole. I’m not jamming them in but feeling them in with a slight grinding. It’s driving me crazy. So I’ve been tapping on the clutch(it’s new anyways)to help me out. I still float them though. Sometimes they go in smooth and not. It’s like driving a whole new truck.

I understand completely why you need to know how to double clutch, but can’t understand why they would fail you for not clutching every gear. My opinion you should be able to do both just as some point out good drivers will change what they do according to the different situation at hand.
