When is the last time a piece of construction equipment ever got checked by any safety or DOT agency? I see construction equipment with fully blacked out tinted windows all the way around, which I totally understand for skin safety, but I doubt they ever get checked for anything since they don't really travel much on roadways with the general public.

I have seen State officials doing safety checks on a crushed stone operation several years ago after a fatal accident. I don't know about any OSHA checks in regard to my comment.

It was very hard to turn the steering wheel of a cab over without a steering knob. Most did not have power steering. It was easy ier if the truck was moving

So to see it you have to fully turn your head away from watching the road?

Smarter would be a regular GPS that mounts to the windshield within a better view range.

AFAIK T he steering knob it self is not illegal but the way it is mounted is.
No part of the assembly can stick out past the perimeter of the steering wheel including the clamp.
Clamping the knob to a spoke should be legal and there are steering wheels designed for a knob.

Which is exactly why I am bumping this again.

Is there not a quick-release spinner for less than $75-$100 ?

I run recovery wrecker, extremely often it is necessary to achieve elongated finite and explicit maneuvers, especially on the rez. Not an easy task in a FL-M2, 18" wheel.

I need a spinner that I can grab from the cubby and slap on, and quickly remove to get back on the road.

But jeez, $75 is a lot for me, single provider with a disabled wife, cost is everything.

I saw one on eBay for $18, but that seems a bit TOO cheap, lol. I must sound like an Aunt Bee, too much too little not the right color ......

My last carrier prohibited them. If a spinner knob was discovered during service it was removed and thrown away. I can't remember today if it was a Prostar or a Volvo, but I drove a tractor with a damaged steering wheel because of a spinner knob.

When I got the truck I'm now driving, it had a spinner knob on the steering wheel. I planned on taking it off as soon as I got the right torx bit. But I found that I really like using it when I'm backing up. I had had a tendency to oversteer when backing. The knob seems to give me better control.
    And it's still on there.

    Concorde and FerrissWheel Thank this.
