You have to decide for you. Tons of truck drivers go into and leave CA with no guns. Newbies greatly exaggerate the amount of crime they are likely to find. Nothing but driving for several years will convince them that each trip is not an ambush. The best thing you can do is don't ask and don't tell ANYONE if you do or if you don't have a weapon. It seems 99% of the public believe 99% of truck drivers are armed and half-crazy, which must help criminals decide to pick on other targets. I wish 100% of the public believed 100% of truck drivers had pistols whether I ever carried, carried sometime, or wouldn't carry if it would save the Continental Congress. Either decision carries consequences. The best way to lessen fear or anxiety is to learn everything there is to know about that thing that causes fear.

You can bring your gun into California. It has to be in a locked box and the ammo in another one. I have lock boxes that are California DOJ as well as TSA approved. I have had them in my car traveling through California but fortunately never been pulled over. If I had been I'm sure they would have known that I have a Arkansas carry permit as soon as they ran my license. And I'm just as sure they would have asked if I had a gun in the car.

One thing to remember. Some states consider the side box storage compartment of the typical Semi-truck as part of the interior driver's compartment. Some states consider the side box more like a car's truck, another compartment seperate from the driver's cab. Your freedom may depend on how the jurisdiction you are in RIGHT NOW considers your side box as being the same as or separate from the cab of the truck. Notice, how you the driver thinks about your side box, is not the opinion that matters. Also, your view of your side box is not going to be successfully argued with a cop on the side of the road or at a weigh station. The law is concerned with how the courts view the factors important in some legal case.

A quick look at the world tells you the inmates are running the asylum. You also must be aware that defending yourself is a worst crime than the crazy trying to hurt you. Violence and possibly death is one outcome you face the other is jail. Tough choice.
If you decided to carry then don't tell anyone and try to obey the laws as much as you can. Don't grab it until you're sure it is unavoidably a life or death situation. Remember you'll need to explain your actions.
I live in a citizen friendly not criminal friendly state so I carry at home. No one around me knows that I'm protecting myself nor should anyone know. It is called concealed carry for a reason.

What's so scary about California? It ain't any more or any less dangerous than the other 47 in my estimation. It's lots of mentally ill people and criminals in every state. I don't quite get your logic...

You have never been to California, have you? I would be much more worried about quite a few places in the South, in my estimation. Just personal experience.

It doesn't matter where you are. You can be in the heart of Dixie, or in the middle of the state of Massachusetts, or in California or Iowa. If you are using a firearm for protection know the law in that location and act accordingly. I was reading THIS STORY last night. I get two things from it. The first one is a piece of paper is worthless. I know several females that are 6 feet under because they depended on a court order. Next, why are they using the term "released" in that last sentence? That word released along with the term DA review scares me.

Some states will require the gun to be unloaded and separated from the ammunition so you will need another safe for the ammo .

and if any company allows it in writing , it’s news to me .
Every company will have a paragraph on their employee handbook that says no weapons allowed . So , don’t get caught .
Don’t ever leave it in the truck and if you do and it gets stolen , you can’t report it in the area where it gets stolen , because that report may get back to your employer stating that it was stolen from their truck.

you will have to contact the police where you live and report it as “missing , possibly stolen “

I’m kind of fond of the baby glock .380
But there are many subcompact firearms that will slide right into a pocket , and there are several types of holsters that no one will see .
And “uncle mikes Fanny pack “
“Smart carry “ and “thunderwear” worked well for me when I carried everyday .

And there are now several different types of non lethal tools available , pepper spray in multiple forms and pepper ball guns etc

and always carry a tactical flashlight like a Nitecore P-10

and situational awareness and listening to your gut feeling and giving some credence to prejudices and stereotypes goes a long long way preventing encounters with thugs.

    Yep.
Any large urban city with a particular demographic , will have a very high violent crime rate .

I can’t mention that demographic , but watch the local news in Atlanta , Jacksonville Florida , Memphis , Jackson Mississippi, etc, and you will pick up some important clues .
