Replying to myself, as I made a related observation during my learning. Clearly the diesel APU has set the pricing bar at or slightly above $10k for an aux driver comfort system, that you can get installed in a day or two, requires nearly zero driver aptitude to use, and pretty much just works 99% of the time.
Not coincidentally, the one or two social media posts where someone named their price, it was always in the same ball park of $10k out the door, no matter what it was. Then there's always some trucker math to rationalize why their bleeding edge system is superior to a Tri Pac or the like.

Tripac, or some company like it such as Carrier, will always have the attention of the Megas. I have mentioned before I'm happy with mine because it came on the truck. If it hadn't I'd definitely be doing something like you have done. I have one HUGE problem with the Tripac, and that's that it doesn't maintain a steady temp like a mini split or any home type system does. You're freezing or burning up. Honestly, when mine is on 'low' on AC it ranges from 65 to upper 70's in the truck all the time. Makes no sense to me whey they can't get it to regulate temp better but hey, it's air conditioning so I'll take it.
The Espar heater tied to the system does much better at regulating heat in the winter.
Thanks for taking the time to explain all this Red. Lots of good info here and I think we'll be seeing more and more people going this route.Rideandrepair, RedForeman, loudtom and 1 other person Thank this. -

I've noticed that but on AC especially it takes me a long time to find 'the spot'. I've often thought of replacing my controller, which has the thermostat in it. I could probably move it somewhere else in the cab too and see if it acts differently. Mine is mounted low in the lower bunk. I hang out in the lower bunk (workstation in mine) but sleep up top.

The Pioneer has a "follow me" function on the remote that turns it into the thermostat.

Even turned off, the unit uses 100W to energize it's electronics to wait for use. It's not much, but removing every bit of unnecessary load helps extend battery capacity. In comparison, my 24" LCD TV draws 30W, as do most wall wart usb chargers most people have everywhere.86scotty, loudtom, RubyEagle and 1 other person Thank this.
