OK so their roads aren't built for that weight.

I suggest they get to using their gas royalty money and building the roads. Other wise
that gas royalty money just might go away when they can't get the heavy equipment in
to the locations to produce the gas.

And if you read the rest of the article, it says he was "arraigned" which I take to mean he was arrested. That's crazy.

Why crazy? The driver knew he was over weight for the road, the company knew the truck was over weight for the road.

The only saving grace is if the permit had a bullcrap small error that the cops capitalized on.

Crazy because I have never heard of anyone being arrested for being on a restricted route or overweight. I'm sure it has happened, but not common by any means. It says there were other permit violations but they don't say what they were.

Just seems a bit extreme to me. They could have wrote the tickets and gave him a summons to appear. I guess they want to make sure they get their money.

In many jurisdictions, getting arrested means receiving a citation. FYI.

But how many times are you hauled off and brought before a judge the same day you receive the ticket? My guess is this is really about getting the $25,000 for the county.

More than likely he was given a summons by the judge because of the large sum the fine is. He was most probably release on his own signature.

Huge overweight fines like this are common in Pennsylvania. There are many roads in Pa. that are either width restricted or rated with a low weight. I'm always cautious when travelling on an unfamiliar stretch of road there.
