Hi
I have freightliner Columbia 07 with Detroit 60 series engine and it has over 1.3 million miles on it. I bought it last year and i was told it has been done engine overhaul on 1.1 million miles. I haven't used it last 4 months due to fuel price and current low price market. Yesterday i had my 1st trip after for a while, it broke down and i towed to shop, i was told engine failure. Current estimate $6000 just for labor plus whatever parts they use. I was told total can be between $8000 to $12000.
is it worst to fix in current crazy market?
Is it worth to fix ?

I would ask if the bull gear was replaced at the first overhaul.

What does “engine failure” mean? I’d possibly tow it to another shop that might actually know what they are talking about

Yeah engine failure is pretty vague. I'd want a little more info than that.
RefMata, Flat Earth Trucker, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
What exactly failed and what are they suggesting they are doing to fix it for that price?
Other than that, look and see how long it would take the truck to pay that bill back at the rate you use it. That alone will tell you whether or not you should.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
If you plan on still Trucking, really can’t get off much cheaper than fixing what you've got, and running it. If considering quitting, fixing it just to sell may or may not payoff, vs selling as is. Sometimes it’s best to cut your losses instead. Almost guaranteed to be $12k or more, considering the estimate you already have. Like others said, what’s the failure? What’s the $6000 Labor include?

There's nothing I wouldn't fix on my babied 2014 cascadia at 1.1 million miles and still looks great .
A truck will take as good of care of you as you take care of it .motocross25, Feedman and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
