Thanks for the info. I was contacted last week by an XPO recruiter in Dallas. She forwarded my application to the hiring manager at the Fridley terminal last Friday morning. Crickets.
Meanwhile I was offered a job by MME and I accepted. There are some background checks in processing right now. Scheduled to start on August 15.

I'm looking at XPO and the dock work actually makes me a little hesitant.
I don't mind working hard, that's just my nature but I don't want to destroy my body for a job either.
What does dock work intel? Running a forklift for ten hours isn't bad. Or are you finger printing truck loads of freight? Moving tons of pallets with a pallet jack?
There is alot of different types of dock work and I want to make sure that not only can I do it today but also in twenty years when I'm ready to retire.
Please describe a typical day working the docks.
    Thanks

Most of our dock work is forklift freight. I’d say 90 percent forklift. We get handbalm accounts, tires, jd parts which we lost recently thankfully, blinds, a few accts like that. Your dropping etracks for decking, throwing pallets and sheets of plywood for dunnage. An 8 or 10 hr shift of that can be tiring.

I work outbound dock for a different company. Each company will do things a bit different and have their own unique freight. Ours is 90-95% forklift freight. Some nights you do not handle any hand freight. Just depends on the breakers you get. We do use deck bars so we are on and off the forklifts dropping bars as needed. Also you do need to get dunnage as needed for loose barrels and stacking and securing freight. Overall, I enjoy it. It’s fast paced, you do some of the same things over and over but each night is different. We hardly ever use pallet jacks.

I got unofficial news from MME HR Department about the employee stock purchase plan- Knight-Swift's stock, since MME is now their subsidiary, along with Barr-Nunn, and AAA Cooper. I was told they expect MME to roll out the same stock purchase plan as AAA Cooper- 8% discount to employees on KNX stock. Deducted from paycheck. Not clear how frequently the money will be used to make stock purchases, or if there is a vesting schedule- maybe you can turn around and sell quickly to scoop 8%.

Also interviewed with Dayton and asked if there was an annual profit sharing bonus or some program where employees could reap some benefits of ownership and the guy interviewing me was only 6 months on the job and didn't know.

    Anyone here know?

Dayton Freight is privately owned so you wont be getting any company stock but I think* they have a bonus program

Once you hit 3 years at dayton you get the full bonus. It pays out twice a year and is basically 2 extra paychecks
