VOLVO VNL 670 2011 AC ISSUE

    hey fellas,
    Of course it’s summer and ac must give me some hard time. I had an freon leak on low side and replaced that hose which it was $300 ( #### expensive ) and also i wanted to be sure i replaced ac evaporator in the dash and the expansion valve( hell of a work took me whole day), but no leak anymore. Now the thing is cab ac is not blowing that cold but the sleeper ac is blowind ice cold. Fan speeds are kinda messing with me for some reason, volvo it has 4 speeds but from 1-3 fan speed i can barely tell diference and 4th is blowing but i still think is not blowing enough like for 4thspeed. What could be the issue ac cab not to blowing cold as sleeper?

    Two things. First, your dash AC fan is on it's way out. Mine lasted 950k and died a couple weeks ago. $200 part and about an hour of labor doing it myself. There are Youtube videos on this.

    This is a common problem with Volvos. The dash AC fan motors just go. I was told I was really lucky to get so much time out of mine. Usually about 500k miles or less when they go.

    Second problem is the coolant valve in the AC box (near where the blower motor is). They get gummed up and quit closing completely which lets coolant run through the heater core even when heat is off and AC is on, which heats up your air conditioned air and makes you think your AC isn't working right.

    The easiest way to fix this is to put a valve on the firewall outside, engine side under air filter canister, where the heater lines go in to the cab. This shuts the coolant completely off from the AC box and your air will blow colder. Problem is that this is a hack and you'll have to turn that valve on when you want heat again. I pretty much close the valve in the Spring after the last few cool days and don't touch it again until Fall. If you want to fix it properly you have to replace that valve. I don't know what's involved in that. My mechanic told me about the outside valve fix and it cost me $5 and 5 minutes and it's been fine for years.

    Thank you for responding on my thread. I’m pretty sure the blower motor is fine cause i tested and it was fine but i also replaced it last year. What I’m worried is the second thing that you mention about that shut off valve but like you said i will try to bypass it as soon as you show me how it looks like, because i literally had the whole system unit out of the truck and if i knew that that shut off valve is bad i was gonna replaced, but now it will be too much for me to take everything apart.     Yes, they will have it. It’s a shut off valve you can find in the plumbing aisle. Unfortunately I can’t tell you the exact hose size.

    Okay guys i just wanted to give u an update on this issue. Issue was solved. Like u said it was the shut off valve not closing all the way, what i found is when i was replacing my ac evaporator that little handle that is openining and closing the valve wasn’t hooked so i guess it wasn’t closing enough. Thank you so much for your timr and next time if that one really breaks down i will definetly to bypass on the heater core. here is the pic of what was not hooked up

    Cool man, glad that helped you out. I ran my truck the first couple of years with that valve probably faulty, I just never thought I had very good AC and didn't know any different. About the time my compressor went out a year or two ago my mechanic told me about this hack, which I did right away.

    The valve and a new compressor and I have had great AC up until about a month ago when my blower motor died. That's when I learned about Volvo blower motors going out but honestly, I think we get pretty good life out of them. My AC in my truck is on almost year round and first blower lasted 960k. I'm fine with replacing that every few years if that's what it takes.

    Yeah you are totally right about some part on volvos. Like you said that blower motor last long time. Well i want it to fix my ac by myself i also bought dye to track any leaks. Also i have seen people on this forum that said paying thousands and thousand of dollars and ac still doesn’t work
