Hello my fellow truckers! I hope you guys can help out with this! I’m currently leased onto a company & my truck broke down & was in the shop for the 3 weeks. Well I’m back working now & they back charged me for 3 weeks of insurance and informed me that if I wanna come off of the insurance coverage that I need to inform them in writing ahead of time & I must be out for at least two weeks! Besides that 2 months ago when my truck was in the shop they didn’t charge me for insurance payments during that time so do I have a case or not!

All it says is my insurance payment is due weekly but doesn’t go into details about being off.
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Is there a way for me to find out by contacting the insurer?
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
The insurance is the carrier responsibility. That is why they charge 20-35% of the revenue. I wouldn’t work for someone that would pull this garbage

2 things
1 you have to give written notice that you want to discontinue your insurance coverage.. that protects both you & the Insurance company.. that's just standard procedure with any insurance
2.. the reason your carrier didn't pull insurance premiums out while your truck was in the shop is because you didn't generate any revenue from them to pull premiums out from.. so now your playing catch up
And 3rd.. your a fool if you thought about dropping insurance coverage on your truck while it was in the shop.. because that's just a bad stupid idea all the way around.. and this is why it's said on here all the time you should have a nest egg put away from when you have a breakdown .. because you still have overhead expenses even though your tires aren't turning and there no revenue coming in..
You can't place the blame on your carrier..Last edited by a moderator: Aug 6, 2022

SO … A bit of advice based on what others said >>> they deferred your insurance when the truck was off the road because you were not producing?
call them up and ask if they can break the insurance payback up so you won’t be hit so badly with the payback.
You owe them the three weeks, sorry that isn’t what you want to hear but you do.Siinman Thanks this. -
