    Hey gang.

Just spent a lot of time reading through an older thread on here about cupping on the steers but everyone on there has been referring to outside shoulder cupping.

I have a set of R268 Bridgestone 295/80/22.5 heavy steers with about 82k miles on them so far and running at about 100 to 110 psi. Front axle components are all about 2 years old at most with shocks being a little over a year old. Well I parked the truck yesturday and noticed I'm stating to get random cupping on the INSIDE shoulder of my right steer. Left steer seems to still be perfectly round.

Truck has some centramatics but they are about 7 to 8 years old with about 500k miles on them. Checked front end components and nothing seems to appear bad. But I have been running pretty light weight these past comple weeks. Normally the truck will see 13 to 14k lbs on the front end on the regular, but lately I've been sitting around 11k lbs average and so bumps are pretty jolting with the heavy springs.

I guess what I'm wondering is, can a shock blow/be bad with out showing any leaks? Could alingment be affects by the bump? Or is it as simple as the centrimatics being bad and causing imbalance in the wheel?

These tires are extremely new and I'd rather not ruin the set so I'd like to get it fixed ASAP since the cupping showed up pretty fast.

Any ideas will help. I plan to stop into a speedco early tomorrow morning since they will be the only thing open at that time.

One thing to note. I am planning on going to a heavy duty aire ride up front since I haven't been hauling over 15k in quite some time and would like a smoother ride. So technically the front end will be getting rebuilt here very soon. Just trying to figure out if it's suspension related or ballence issue.

I would not bring it to speedco. Try a MD alignment as they have a few around and know what they are doing, They should be able to tell you exactly what problem you are having.

That tire is almost where you’d have to have it buffed off to level it already. As @Siinman said you’re on a 911 mission to a reputable alignment shop. I don’t wait, my trucks all have 315 or 385 steers and those tires are too expensive to tear up over an alignment issue. If that’s your truck in the avatar you may want to verify you don’t have a lift axle over inflating if you’ve suddenly started coming up light on the front. I don’t know what your regs require for valving on lifts.

Are you saying having 385’s on the front with constant light weight can ruin them ?

Because with the certain type of trailer I pull with my big trucks it usually lifts the front end up and it weighs 11k ( on a 20k front end )

On my truck Bridgestones do the same thing. Micheline and Continental don't.

Take it to a spring shop and have the entire front end checked out. That type of wear could be a sign of bad king pins.

Not unusual with a tractor. OP’s truck appears to be a rigid frame with a forward lift or lifts on it. That’s a little different animal, and if his regs specify lifts like the new ones here do I’ve seen wear like that recently from over aired lift axles. That’s why I mentioned axle valving. Two of Onterribles new SPIF “smart” lift axles cured Cousin, the two trucks he has on order now are full twin-steers.

Yeah I should have specified truck. No this isn't a traditional tractor trailer. Dump truck in my profile pic was my old rig from like 5 years ago. It's a heavy spec t370 Kenworth with a single axle rear and one 10k lift axle. Lowest pressure I can run it is about 3k lbs when I have those light loads that just barely put the drive over 20k. Never actually scaled like that to see what the front end weighs at but could be around 10k in that case.

I'll skip the speedco visit and get my delivery done in the am. Got one short run over to Elkhart with some steel. If you guys know of a good suspension shop out that way, let me know

I was originally going to get continental HSR II but they were on a national backorder that that time. Hence why I went with Bridgestone. I plan to still get conti's next time around

I had a pair of steers that were just starting to cup. You could feel it, but it wasn't noticeable enough to actually see it yet. I'd already been in that truck for some time and hadn't had that problem before. The steers were changed to that set simply because the previous set were too worn. Tire folks at my terminal changed them again and I didn't have that problem with the next set. So, although unsure what happened exactly to cause that one set to start cupping, since I hadn't had the problem before or after, it appears it was something with that specific set of tires (both started cupping and my company usually pairs steer tires so the tires are always matched in type and wear). I wish I could remember the brand and specific model, but I don't.
