New owner/operator, bought a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia with the DD15 from Ryder…Detroit says it’ll go 60k between oil changes for OTR. That just seems too long to me, but should I trust it?

Oil is pretty cheap, relatively speaking. Sure couldn't hurt to shorten that up a bit. Say 30k
D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair, God prefers Diesels and 2 others Thank this. -
I would literally crawl out of my own skin every time I started my truck if I waited even 30k between oil changes.
Vampire, BoostedTeg, D.Tibbitt and 9 others Thank this. -
25k for me, almost a million on my Volvo and great Blackstone reports.
60k is madness. If that's the interval it's been changed at since new I would not buy the truck.Oxbow, Midwest Trucker, mitmaks and 5 others Thank this. -
Get an oil analysis before you do anything.
then get the oil changed if it hasn’t been,
then at specific intervals get another OA done and see what the results are.
The OA will tell you when to change the oil before the manufacturer’s recommend mileage.Rideandrepair, Short Fuse EOD and omardten Thank this. -
I’m not sure what the criteria is for Detroit, but with a Paccar if you’re under 80k gross, above 6mpg, and less than 20% idle time the book recommends 75k.ProfessionalNoticer, Rideandrepair, staceydude and 1 other person Thank this. -
DD15 severe duty 35K, long haul 60K
wadeenterprisesllc and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
My dd15 I go 15 to 20k. It's like $300 with land star discount out the door. Sometimes 350. 23 k to rebuild the engine or just dump the oil when you have weekend and it's slow. If I push out a rebuild by 70k miles I'm ahead.
bzinger and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Depends on how you use it. I climb mountains at 80k on a regular basis so i do mine at 10k or when it starts turning black. Others go to 30k and i know a few who use full synth that go to 50k but they also tend to be a lot nicer to their rigs then i am to mine.
Oxbow, bzinger, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
Speaking of oil changes...I changed mine this weekend and couldnt find all the gallons of Rosella so I mixed a gallon of Lucas and 2 bottles of Synthetic .......
Scared me cause my oil PSI dropped from the normal 60ish to about 45 ish!!!
Back in late 90s early 2000s, Schneider use to change their oil at or around 75k.....Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
They didn't give you a manual with it? Could probably get one from FL.
