Hello,
I am looking to get into heavy hauling with a 55 ton lowboy, I have no idea how insurance and booking this type of freight works and am considering leasing on with Landstar. I have my own numbers and previous experience hauling RGN at a construction company. Being based out of South-West FL doesn't help my situation either but deadhead isn't and issue as I've already accepted this unfortunate reality, also staying out for 2-3 weeks isn't an issue either. My main questions is, is it worth doing HH with Landstar and how much should I expect to make net per week there?

Make sure you have a min of $250,000 cargo seeing as most pieces of equipment get up there ….

My advise, sign on as a employee with a heavy haul otr company. Learn the ropes on coast to coast. Being a local driver is a hell of a lot different than otr.

Cargo overlay insurance and it is not that bad. I carry $500k but can overlay $500k more for less than $3-400.
