Does Willis Shaw require a haz mat endorsement on your CDL? I was offered a job with them today and forgot to ask them about it. Also, where would the orientation be held?

I can't vouch for the pay at 2.5 years...as i am a newbie out here. They did just cut pay again at Jan 1 by 1.5 cpm. After the cut, they paid for Idleaire but then last week, Idleaire folded their tent. So...it is what it is.
The company is just as it was advertised to me...I haven't been mislead as to a single point that i can think of.
The trucks are either Macks, Volvos or Internationals. All auto transmissions (some folks have a problem with that). They are turned down to 63 mph which is pretty much a bummer. Mine is a 2007 International with 364k miles on it. Runs good and I haven't had 1 minutes trouble with it...but then, what do I know? I stick the key in and turn it...if it starts, great. It has every time thus far.
As for miles...I can't speak for SE Region as I run all 48, but, earlier in the month I was getting 350-400/day. This trip I am averaging only 275'ish per day. So, the miles are not great right now. I was told to expect 2000-2800 miles per week and I have found that to be pretty accurate. Now, that is for me, a newbie. I am not sure if that is the case for the veterans out here.
In 18 months, I should be around $0.30/mile. There are a couple of bonuses available but until the miles increase...I am not banking on those.
Hope that helps.Baack Thanks this. -
So since idle air shut down wht is willis shaw doing about idle are they letting you idle or wht,an i also wanted to knw the loads that you haul are they 1 pick-up an 1 del or are they multi stops do you have to go into new york city are you forced to go or can you turn tht down
-
1. idling. I idle when I need to. I shut it down when I don't. When it is 18 degrees out, I'm idling unless they want to put me up in a motel room. I've heard nothing about this.
2. My experience...all loads have been 1 pick up with 1 delivery. I hear that we haul plants in the spring that can have several drops and we tailgate the plants as they are offloaded. We get paid extra for this but I don't know how much.
3. I've been through the Bronx on 95 a couple of times but have never taken a load into the city.
4. I won't turn down a load so I don't know how to answer your question. I figure why should I push off onto someone else something I don't want to do myself? Anyway, not sure what happens if you turn down or refuse a load. -
Thks 94nole so i guess you are still running good miles,i thk tht i'm going to put in my app,yea i did not knw about the new york thing it said no forced new york thts why i asked but i like everything i have heard so far,i have seen a few volvos on the road do they still give them out or is it all macks, internationals

Miles earlier in the month were better. This trip, miles have sucked. I have averaged only about 250 miles per day. I am hoping that when I come back on Sunday that I will have a good run of miles. I am pretty well stuck until I get 6 months behind the wheel. But the miles will have to get much better if I am going to stay with WSE regardless of how much I like the people. I didn't join them for the social aspects. I have to make enough money to justify staying out here.
It's a good company with good people (as far as I have experienced). I just need more than 1500 miles/week and that is about what I had these last 2-3 weeks and it sucks.jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -
94nole i understand tht i really do you have to have the miles to make money an without the miles there is no money,i guess i wil wait an see if things pick up i hope it all gets better 94nole
