1. They aren't hiring in my area, and 2. they discriminate against drivers with felonies, I wonder what lies they are using for this bias.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

1. they aren't hiring in my area
2. they discriminate against people with felonies, wonder what lies they are using for that one - can't get hazmat, can't get a twic, etc., etc., etc., etc., -
1. That makes them a bad company?
2. With all the experienced drivers out there right now, who have clean records, why should they have to consider someone with a felony?
Just curious. -
Because a portion of those exp. drivers have felonies, and for companies to blanketly say no is wrong. Plus a lot of these companies are lying about why they won't hire someone with a felony.
-
My post said "with all the experienced driver out there with clean records". That means NO felonies, NO dui's, NOR anything else of a legal nature that the company doesn't like. You can't have a clean record with a felony.
As for the lying, why exactly would a company have to lie about that? -
Sorry, but I've seen companies hire people with recent DUI's (less than 5 rys old) and turn down someone with 2 million + clean MVR because of a 30 yr old felony.
What do they lie about, sir you have a felony, you can't:
Our insurance won't cover you - That's a new one, but nice try
A get HAZMAT endorsement - really, unless it's a specific prohibited item from the TSA/FMCSA list you can get HAZMAT endorsement
You can't get a customs bond - really, nice try
You can't haul gov't loads - depends on the level of security requirement for the gov't agency involved
You can't haul military loads - again, see above and you can't go on the bases
You can't get a TWIC card - see all HAZMAT
You can't go into Canada - Only legit excuse, and even then it is possible to get a ministers permit if the company is willing to work with you.
So, now, I have a 19 yr old felony, I have been told all of the above. Guess what, I have HAZMAT endorsement, the only reason I don't have a TWIC card is because we don't go to the Port's enough for me to get one.
I haul HHG loads for the US Military couple of times per month, FE Warren AFB, Kirtland AFB, Ellsworth AFB, Ft. Carson, Peterson AFB, Schriever AFB (US Space Command/ US Spec. OPS), Cannon AFB, Minot AFB, are all bases I've picked up or delivered HHG loads from in the last 12 yrs. Also, as part of the "Star Wars" Missile Defense shield, a lot of the testing is conducted off the coast of Hawaii, the lead base for the testing and development is Kirtland AFB, I've hauled or delivered more then 3 dozen loads of military hardware between that facility and the UPRR intermodal ramp in Denver between 1999 and 2003.
I am covered under my companies customs bond, never once had a problem. We have hauled loads for the US Mint going from Denver to KC and Denver to Dallas, one trip was 40,000 lbs of freshly minted pennies. They have never once given me a hard time. The only thing I can't do is go to Canada, now I have looked into a Ministers permit, but since my company doesn't go anywhere near there, I have no need for it.
Oh and one final thing, well our customers don't trust you. Really, are these customers running background checks on me? If so, what are they shipping that is so sensitive that requires them to run a background check on me.
The person I mentioned with a 30 yr old felony is my Dad's neighbor. He was convicted of armed robbery in 1980, spent 3 yrs in prison, was released to 5 yrs probation. Went to truck driving school and went to work for Monfort, then Seaboard Farms as an O/O. Recently he tried to lease on with another company that runs from Denver/KS/NE to the ports hauling reefer cans. They turned him down because of the felony. Yet he already has the TWIC card, has 2.2 million miles, is on his 3rd truck (2nd one bought brand new), has a spotless MVR and they tried to tell him, after physically looking at his TWIC card that he can't get one. Yet, instead they hired a guy with a 5 yr old DUI as a company driver. -
JimF your'e right but at one time this was a highly unionized industry good or bad. Even Schnieder was union once upon a time. As an o/o I'm not for or against unions but back then their where no driver mills and goverment grants to train people who shouldn't be near a truck I'm just saying.
-
Don't disagree with you, Mr Nasty. Back then, you got on with a company, as an apprentice driver (actually, you might start as warehouse help, 1st) and learned from the senior guys, both by watching and then doing. Also agree, there are a lot of truck drivers out there that shouldn't be.

Striker, can't refute or verify your facts, I can't say yes or no. Since you seem to definitely have a chip on your shoulder regarding TMC, it would be a moot point to do so.
I will ask, though, if since you already have what seems to sound like a dream job, and since your Dad's friend wasn't trying to sign on with TMC, why'd you jump on this in the 1st place?
Not being sarcastic, just really curious. -
I don't have chip on my shoulder towards TMC, I have a chip on my shoulder towards companies that are lying like this to people with felonies. The reason I jumped on it was when I saw the thread I was curious especially with all the various comments made about TMC in the past, and then I looked at their site. I would note, that the OP of this thread has been monitoring it all day and hasn't bothered to chime in and give a reason for anything.
I'll give you a better example, I do my damndest to steer potentiol drivers away from USTDS for training. When I wanted to go to school I was told by the recruiter to buy a shovel and get used to digging ditches because that's all I'll ever do. He even sat me down in his office, which was a 8x8 broom closet in the basement (he literally moved two brooms and mop out of his office so he could bring in a chair for me to sit on). He then proceeded to tell me the above, but he did go so far as to call one company, MAY Trucking, and ask them if they would hire me with a felony and they said no. 2 yrs later, I was at a job fair with my wife and ran into the same guy. I started chatting with him, when he used the same line on me again, I pulled out my wallet and showed him my CDL with full endorsements, he said well you must be driving a class B crap van or something because no one would want to hire me. I said no, I run regional containers working 6 days/65hrs a week covering 4 states. He shut up, turned away and wouldn't acknowledge me.
