You're better off asking the carrier you're Leasing on to but the short answer is you'll have to qualify for the carrier that has the DOT number. Your buddy will also have to have an employee file on hand for you as well.

 

I know of a co that makes both of you fill out a application for the driver part because if you can't drive that day for some reason, after being home for the weekend the owner of truck can get load Del.

Sounds like they're having a hard time getting insurance for the second truck so they're looking at leasing it to a carrier so this guy can drive it. At least that's the way I read it. If it were me I would fix that insurance problem and keep the truck under my own authority.
