Pain at the Pump

Depends on several factors, most notably the size of the tank and the rate of flow.

If the pump is slow and someone is taking on 250+ gallons, they could very well be there 30-45 minutes.

 

In minutes is an irreverent metric. It takes as long as it takes.
Fuel tanks, add def, pull forward and fuel reefer is obviously going to take more time than a day cab that tosses in 50 gallons at the end of the shift.

Both are fine to take as long as needed to fuel. Both need to move forward after that. Doesn't matter if it takes the day cab guy 6 minutes and the reefer guy 20.

 

I’m normally a 15-18 minutes to fill and clean windows.

 

Fill up, order food, logs, a bit of social media, and dinner. Roughly an hour if i don't shower

 

Less than 15 minutes throwing in 200 gallons and washing the windows

 

Honestly, I can usually get in and out in less than 10 minutes. 5 minutes if I'm only filling one side and no DEF

 

Some poeple must walk over to the fuel desk to activate the pump. Some are slower than others. There can be a line at the fuel desk or a technical problem with the fuel card. Some will check and add fluids or add tire pressure. It all depends on circumstances.
I'd say that 30 minutes is too long no matter what if someone is waiting behind you.
On the other hand, If the guy behind has an opportunity to safely back up and move into another vacant fuel pump bay then they should do it.

 

Say you pull in and want to load up on 200 gallons, but the pump is only putting out 10 gpm. You also need to put in 40 gallons of reefer fuel and 15 gallons of DEF.

After 15 minutes, the truck is full, then you put in DEF. Another 3 minutes and you're getting in and pulling up (3 minutes) to set up and fill the reefer. 4 more minutes pass, and the receipt printer is broken. You then pull up, go inside to get the receipt, only to find yourself waiting in line for 5 minutes. Now you run to the john, drain the main vein, and head back out to the truck. You just spent 25 minutes at the pump and another 10 minutes inside, and you didn't even get anything to drink, but were parked there at/in front of the fuel island for 35 minutes.

 

It really depends on how long the flip flop wearing driver in front of you takes to to wash their feet in windshield washing bucket, and eat their dinner at the fuel island....
