I just have always had a passion for trucking, just recently was I able to actually do so due to the FMCSA changing vision laws.
If I can’t find a job driving, I was an auto tech for 13 years, just would rather drive lol.Another Canadian driver and tscottme Thank this. -
Here's some advice on paying for CDL school. Money for CDL Training
CDL school is JUST FOR PASSING THE STATE CDL EXAM. It is not anything more than that. Even community colleges and state vocational schools which can take 2-4 months to complete are not giving you everything you need to know to do his job. 95% of that knowledge comes from the trainer at the first company you work for. That's why it's important to NOT WORK FOR CR ENGLAND. The majority of their drivers, which includes their trainers, have only been behind the wheel of a semi-truck for 90 days or less.
You don't get more from paying for a longer school and a higher priced school is not giving you enough extra to be worth more money.
I'm glad you are looking at trucking companies before going to school. That is the best way to achieve the best results. Find a company that fits what you need (time off, pay, benefits, type of trucking etc.) Every company is not the same as every other company. You won't change the company you work for simply by asking them to change. They will give you what they give the other drivers doing the same job, so your job is to find out from those working drivers what pay and conditions they are receiving.
You can be practicing for all of the endorsments for your future CDL license by taking the practice tests on this site (link at the very top of the screen). I prefer to use the practice tests at TruckerCountry.com. You will be required to take General, Combination, Air Brakes. I would also recommend you, and everyone, also take Doubles/Triples (one test), and Tanker. The regulations require that certain freight carried on/in other types of trailers can only be carried if the driver has a Tanker endorsement. Tanker is an easy test. Every endorsement except HazMat is good for as long as your keep your CDL. HazMat expires about every 5 years. HazMat can cost almost $200 by the time you pay for the state fee, fingerprints, background check. Every other endorsement in in the $10-20 range. Every endorsement is one more set of freight you can haul. It will never be more convenient than the day you get your original CDL to take all of the endorsement tests. If you are on very limited funds, skip HazMat until you have more money. Lots of jobs don't require it. If he company you want to work for, and fits you best, requires HazMat than get it.scott180, Big Road Skateboard and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -

Maine is a beautiful state, but the winter is something I can't deal with.
I was in Bath, Maine a few months in the shipyard. Enjoyed my stay there, but no desire to live there due to the weather.

I have money budgeted for my CPL and Tanker as well as Doubles/Triples and will be taking written as soon as I pass DOT physical (this Friday). Waiting on Birth Certificate for TSA screen and have HazMat required course on budget for this Friday as well. Already have background and fingerprinting through IdentiGo for my current career.
The hurtle is a company and if I can’t find a company then a physical truck and someone to help train me to pass road course at this point.
by the way, I do appreciate all of the info and knowledge and support man, thank you.Lonesome, Another Canadian driver and austinmike Thank this.
