    Hey I justed received a offer at Sysco 24.10 a hour shuttle driver .So if you still use electronic logs and say you click 11 hours as nite .D.C 70 miles south , plus they said surrounding areas out of drop yard .That hitting $ 70,000 on a five day work week not to say I wouldn't mind working 6 days .So what am I missing about the low pay that was posted above .Plus home every day to a clean bed .

    $70,000 is low pay? or $24/hour is low pay? A typical 8 hour day, 5 days a week, 2 weeks off per year will add up to 2,000 hours of work per year. At $24/hr that equals $48k per year gross (double the hourly rate in dollars to find the yearly rate in thousands). Let's assume no vacation,12 hours per day, 5 days per week. That equals $74,880 gross per year. Often home daily is working 12 hours per day and being off as close to 10 hours as possible. The company is NOT required by Federal regs to pay overtime if you work more than 40 hours. They may choose to pay OT or they may have a contract that requires them to pay OT. Trucking is specifically exempt from the Federal overtime pay requirement in the Fair Labor Standards Act or FLSA. Whatever hourly rate of pay they are quoting will be accurate, but they are not in the business of paying any more than it takes to get JUST ENOUGH drivers to get the job done.

    BTW, In those 10 hours off from work daily you have to squeeze your commute, your sleep, eating, showering etc. Working nights is easy unless you have family or friends or hobbies.

    I wouldn't do it. Long nights, camera staring at you, one bump while switching songs and you are out of the game. Plus 64 speed day cab trucks, there is no room to recline chairs. yuck! I was a delivery driver for them. Always felt bad for those drivers

    Hey thanks for info , on the 24.00 a hour pay .I am single and no plans at the moment to change that .I really don't mind being out at the same time it has tons make sense, like $ cents .I have a short list now , Marten , K&B & Heartland .Heartland per mile $ is 5 cents less but terminal is a hour down the road .I sorta like the convenience and peace of mind .I'm still new 6 mos experience and a long ways to go before I get there .

    No way... 70 miles south = 2 hours of commuting each day on top of your 12-hour straight-time shift. That leaves you 10 hours/day to do the 3 S's, eat breakfast and dinner, sleep, and any other task you might need to do.

    The ONLY way being a shuttle driver works out is if you live within a few minutes of the terminal, not an hour+ away.

    Hey just talked to H.R at Sysco .She said as soon as I sign in on electronic logs at the drop yard .I start getting paid $ 24.10 a hour and the average is 55 to 60 hrs a week and anything over 40 is overtime .Using 55 hrs a week equals $78.000 , I would be sleeping and showering daily from my house .

    The other 3 company's I listed K&B , Marten & Heartland would be over the road.I would be out 2 to 4 weeks at a time .56 to .65 cents a mile .I like being out moving , mixing it up and staying busy .At the same time after you do the math and consider the circumstance in the effort it takes to get paid while driving .It's hard not to like $ 24.10 a hour even thoe it's not OTR which is why I got my license.Unless I'm doing the math wrong .

    Take K&B completely off your list. As in, never mention or think of them again unless you like never sleeping, being coerced into driving tired after flipping back and forth from days to nights, and having "guaranteed pay" snatched out from under you for taking a 34 instead of running constant recaps.

    That sounds pretty good, if you live close to the terminal and your job is shuttling trailers. I worked nights for almost 20 years. I love working nights when the 4-wheelers are mostly at home. If you are a social person working nights is hard.

    From your original post, I could not tell if you live 70 miles from this job or if you would stay within 70 miles of where you start work.

    I line in Bowling Green Ky. were the drop lot is located .The Sysco terminal is in Nashville Tn. 65 miles south so I like the simplicity of a ten minute drive to start my nite .I just have a hard time after doing the math of getting excited about excepting OTR job for the same or less .I was ok with it when I thought staying out for 2 to 3 weeks was what it took to earn that kind of $$ .The fact I'm knew , I expect to have to put the time into get that kind of money .It was sort of a downer .55 hrs x 24.10 plus OT ,=78,000 , when you consider 3 or 4 weeks in a truck around the clock when OTR = 70 to 74,000 if you check all the boxes .
