@Chinatown is this an unrealistic request?

I’m trying to help a friend find CDL training with a company in the St Louis area preferably but not necessarily on the Illinois side. I would be grateful for a list of companies that provide that for this friend and others

Here’s a shorter list request: My friend is heavily involved in the church and he would like to work for a company that he could have an option of Sunday off

And an even shorter list: He has a young family and he would like to be off evenings

I understand about paying your dues but is there any one out there that this is possible?

Your ‘friend’ would be best to inquire for local jobs.
LTL, doing city ‘pick up and delivery’.
    Dump truck.
Local governments have employees with CDL’s.

Right down the road is a place called "Case CDL." They are the most economical option for obtaining ELDT and a CDL in a short time frame. After that, he can propose this to whomever he looks at for work, but he would likely be limited to Regional in order to ensure being home for church.

It is not unreasonable, nor is it impossible. Is there always the possibility that he could miss a Sunday or two? Yes, especially from Jan-Mar. But that doesn't mean there aren't places that will ensure being home for religious reasons to the best of their ability.

Right out of school, it may be daunting. It isn't impossible like DRT said, but it is going to be difficult. Your friend will have to show a willingness to sacrifice the short term for long-term gain. It's asking a lot, and your friend is going to have to be prepared to give a little to get what he wants because that's the more likely path

His best bet is to attend a cdl school.
Old Dominion Freight Line hires new cdl school grads from approved schools.
This is a quick way to swiftly reach $100G a year and be home every day.
He can apply for free cdl school through the state WIOA Program. He may qualify for the WIOA being "under employed." That means he is working, but not making enough money.

He can also apply for "Dock-to-Driver" program with Old Dominion. He's hired and starts out working on the dock and quickly progresses to moving trailers around, setting up trailers for the drivers such as hooking up doubles trailers.

Follow directions on this website. Don't go to the terminal first because the hiring is first approved by corporate office.

This one has free cdl school and you're paid hourly while in school.
You must apply off the website, not at the terminal. Keep that in mind.
The guy at the terminal doesn't decide if you're hired or not; corporate does that.

If he can attend a cdl school, even one with night or part time classes Sygma will hire him.
