So Applied to a Trucking School run by a company
They sent me to do a DOT physical. Passed Urine test, Failed Hair follicle test.(THC) Have NOT used any Cannabis products 3 (1/2) months . So I thought I was in the clear. I have my DOT physical Card. I have a CDL permit.
No one will take my application now. Should/can I even get my CDL if I pay out of pocket for a school?
Should I do a SAP/RTD program Before I have even try to get my CDL?
Should I get my CDL then do SAP if that's possible?
Should I forget about being a Truck driver?
Half of my family is truck drivers and I cant get any solid info as they have never been in the situation.
Really Really really upset at myself. Trying to better myself and I have failed.
How can I continue moving forward?
I screwed my Self before even Obtaining a CDL

@Moose1958 can answer your question.
Yeah, you're good to go, but have some hurdles to overcome first.alds and austinmike Thank this. -
You can still be a truck driver, but you’re probably looking at about a year or more before you’ll be out on the road. I wouldn’t give up if it’s what you really want to do.DrBigRig, 48Packard, born&raisedintheusa and 1 other person Thank this. -
A failed hair test shouldn't be causing a problem because it's not a DOT test and not reported to the clearinghouse. Even Schneider lets you reapply after 6 months if you fail the hair test as long as you pass the urine.
Kepeck27, Chinatown, silverspur and 5 others Thank this. -
There are experts on this subject residing here. I'm not one. However since DOT doesn't allow the Schneider's of the world to report hair tests I don't understand why you're shelved.
Dave_in_AZ and snowmantrucking101 Thank this. -
Stop worrying about SAP because SAP has nothing to do with hair testing positives.
There are enough carriers needing drivers you should find something so don't give up on yourself. However, you MUST stop smoking that BS.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Here is another suggestion. Keep in mind that it is going to be a lot of effort & hard work on your part:
1) Get into an exercise routine:
everything from calisthenics, jogging (either outdoors or a treadmill), weightlifting (comfortably being able to lift & throw around up to 100 pounds for a stretch of time), lots of shadowboxing, swimming, along with outdoor work if you have your own place.
2) Go onto a strict diet of with really decent nutrition included in this regiment.
Totally eliminate the fats, sugars & sweets: cakes, pastries, cookies, ice cream, chocolates, candies, pizzas, potato chips, French fries, other junk foods, along with TOTALLY AVOIDING all alcoholic beverages & sodas. Eat PLENTY of good vegetables, good healthy fruits as apples & citrus fruits, and drink PLENTY of clean fresh water and herbal teas to cleanse & purify your system. Any meat & chicken that you eat should be as fat free as possible. Eat omega-3 fishes as salmon, tuna, & sardines (preferably without the excess oils found in some cans of sardines).
3) If you smoke, (tobacco, oregano, any drugs whatsoever), totally give it all up!! Your body must be free of all that junk in your system when being checked for drugs, NO if's, ands or buts about this whatsoever!!
4) Work to get all your affairs in order:
Get as many of your bills & debts paid off to the best of your ability. Don't worry about your credit score. Just pay what you owe & get it behind you. When you get behind the wheel of any vehicle, especially for long stretches of time, you REALLY want to have "all your ducks in a row".
Do these suggestions for at least another 2 to 3 years & then reapply for truck driving training. By this time, your mind, body, spirit and soul should be in tip top shape to take what the truck driving world has to both offer and throw at you.
Good luck to you! God bless you and your entire family!
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.
Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, every night, all year round.Last edited: Aug 17, 2022

You shouldn't have a problem getting a cdl.
There are millions of companies that probably won't look for your dirty hair.
As mentioned above though. QUIT.
We get called in for randoms. You'll never know when your pee will be tested. -
Get your cdl man. Give it some time, like another 90 days. Try again. Someone answer me this: would it be in his best interest to make no mention of the failed hair follicle test on the next application?
