Could just be me, but doesn’t that look a little dry in there to you?

I noticed a bit of grease, but had thought it seemed to be lacking

You use the pilers just to avoid crawling under and grabbing the tie rods with your hands ?

What are you looking/listening for when tapping the arm the comes out of the steering box with a hammer ?

Should have been bad enough to fail annual inspection. That did not get that bad overnight.

Grease everything once a week on older trucks. You get a good look at everything while you're doing it.

You did well, I've seen photos of another O/O truck where I'm currently working, his came apart in the yard and went through the inside wall of the other 385 steer tyre. He was not happy...

That was on a C501 tri drive kenworth too, but pretty old. Steer tyres were fairly new though.

No. Pliers give you more force to see a problem your hands might miss. You can also use a C-clamp to try and move them up and down. It's like using a bar to check your kingpins instead of just trying to wiggle the tire with your hands.

So your trying to compress the ball joint a little bit ? I'm trying to properly understand how to prevent any future incidents
