Understood. Wish everybody else woulda been like that in their replies instead of waiving that belittling paint brush around so wide.
Well, I didn't necessarily say it was wonderful, just thought it was better than nothing considering my wife and I knew absolutely nothing about driving a truck and the business aspect that goes along with it. I just figured you have to start somewhere and England just so happened to be the place we started.
. Couldn't agree with you more. Us too have a lot to learn. At least with leasing, there really is no commitment. Yeah the lease is for 3 years, but we can turn this truck in at any time if it gets to the point where we feel we are no longer makin money. But since it is going fine, I see no reason for having to terminate this lease prematurely.
Well of course its always better to buy, rather than lease, but as I've stated before, you have to have things like, good credit.... Hefty down payment... None of which my wife and I. Have. Plus, whether you pay cash or finance, how do you expect to get to get out from under a commitment if you find being an O/O isn't for you? A buddy of mine bought a truck to do local stuff and since it didn't work out, he's still makin payments on a truck that he's havin' a helluva hard time tryin to sell. Again with leasing, even tho its costin us close to 2 grand a month to have this truck, we can back out of it any time and be done with it.
It is an option if that's what you wanna do. I'm not sure what they sell it to ya for. I do know that horizon will put one cent into a fund per mile you drive that you can use as a down payment. Plus, if you remain a safe driver, you get points which can be redeemed for things like, less variable mileage payment, no credit check among other incentives for being safe.
why does it seem fishy? And even if it did, that's why we are paying eqinox to watch over things.
whether we are called IC's, lease operators, it doesn't matter. The only thing that's different from us being company drivers and now "lease ops", is that we get paid a lot more to do the same thing. Granted, we have to pay for our own fuel which if we follow their rules and regulations, we only pay a buck 25 for, maintenence which is paid for out of our maintenance fund among other expenses. But as I've mentioned many times before, if you keep your miles up and run the piss out of that truck, you will make money.
Cr england should be shutting it's schools

obviously. But since I stand alone, I get treated like the bad guy for stating my opinion because I'm the only one who is disagreeing.I don't think anyone really cares what you believe ...Click to expand...

even tho I never said it was, but in a way it kind of is. Not by choice on my part, I just took it upon myself to give some of my points of view and retort some of the bs in here and I get the crap flamed out of me.This thread isn't about "you" ... so get over yourself.Click to expand...
you're right it is. But you think its ok to commence with all the lies and misinform people? This thread is about the community, and the hundreds of others who will read thru these threads looking for information.Click to expand...

LOL. You just go right ahead and believe that. I'm not lookin for a fight, I'm just tryin to settle the score a little bit but trying to accomplish that is about as difficult as it gets. You don't want a "mentor" ... your lookin' for a fight - and it seems you found the right place.Click to expand...
If I remeber correctly, you were the one that threw the first swing by assuming I was calling you a friend by referring to you as "pal" and you got all defensive at making sure I was fully aware that you were certainly no friend of mine. Which is fine. I can truly do without people like you.AfterShock Thanks this. -
I don't want to make it sound like russian roulette.. I do always think through my choices carefully especially when there is money to be lost, and/or I am aware of difficulties that others have experienced... I may be selfish, but, I would rather learn from the mistakes of others than have to make them on my own to learn. LOL
Now I realize that you are pleased with how things are going so I am not saying you are making a mistake... and if things are going good for you I am glad for you.
You do have to admit that there have been some people who lost the farm so to speak on the lease thing... I just don't want to assume that those who did were all idiots or whatever... I do think that some, if not many, well meaning, intelligent, hard working people got burned in a lease agreement and that is enough to concern me.
Some sure, made mistakes and can't blame it anyone but themselves.... But, then I have question the integriy of a company that would not only allow, but encourage and finance someone not capable of making it.
That to me is like lenders who put people into homes and morgages that they couldn't afford... I am not saying that the consumer is blameless.... I think each are accountable fo their part.
I do know that not everyone fails or loses all in the lease agreement, I have read posts by some that made it through okay, and a couple that even leased again...
I do hope you keep us posted on how it is going, and I do hope it goes well for you...AfterShock Thanks this. -
Good luck, Cornelius. No need to line by line argue and bicker though. State your numbers so they can help others looking at a similar proposition so they can compare and get out. After reading this I still don't have a clear idea of what your income is and the costs & liabilities you're undertaking. Why not just stick with being a company driver? You weren't really making $.17/mi.? Mexican truckers make around that figure.

Well, I don't know the details of each individual case that didn't work out but if you read most of the stories on here, its always me, me, me and that its always the other persons fault, not even 50/50 or even 90/10 for that matter. But as with buyin a house, truck car, big truck, YOU have to know what you're doing. Its not their responsibility to make sure you can live up to the contract. People need to start bein responsible for their own actions and stop playin the blame game. That's why I'm not so sympathetic because after all, you are in charge of your own success and destiny.LavenderTrucker said: ↑I don't want to make it sound like russian roulette.. well thank you. Its kinda nice to finally get to exchange conversation with someone who's not constantly buttin heads with me, questioning and criticizing the information I give on my weekly settlements and accusing me of only wanting to fight. Now I realize that you are pleased with how things are going so I am not saying you are making a mistake... and if things are going good for you I am glad for you.Click to expand...
oh, I know of people who it didn't work for but leasing isn't for everyone. And from what I've been told, its twice as hard to make it work by yourself, let alone make any money but, there are solo leasers out there thare making it work. So with that being said, its not all englands fault. If no one and I mean NO ONE was makin success, then by all means, fire away at England. You do have to admit that there have been some people who lost the farm so to speak on the lease thing... I just don't want to assume that those who did were all idiots or whatever... For a long time, we avoided the lease program like the plague because all the rumors. But I will have to say, its not near as bad as we thought. Granted, we'd probly still be company drivers if we hadn't been told we were gonna have to wait nearly 2weeks for another truck. But after all that's been said and done, we make pretty good money when we take it more seriously and keep our miles up. It just goes to show ya its a big responsibility and if you don't take it seriously, its almost a guarantee you won't succeed.
Well, like said, we have a percentage that we have to uphold as well and as long as things keep going the way they are, I really don't forsee any issues just as long as we do what's expeted of us and take care of the truck and our business.I do hope you keep us posted on how it is going, and I do hope it goes well for you...Click to expand... -
If you and the wife hang in this business for three year and save money wisely you can buy a truck vs the fleece. In three years running team you could actually live off one pay check and bank the other. Almost pay cash for a new truck.
Who knows if she will still want to do this next year? Who knows if you will?
You can bet your donkey dropping this lease will screw your credit even more.
I know how to handle my expenses. Just need to go OTR to learn more.
I know a fleece isn't the way to go. This is the same funky game they were playing back in the 80's dude. The rules haven't changed! CRE just got in a bunch of trouble for this, yet they continue the game.
They control everthing and you control little to nothing. -
You keep ranting bout lies . Please list the specific statements you claim are lies along with your evidence they are lies .corneileous said: ↑You just don't know when to quit, do ya??

I suppose everything you did in training and since was in complete compliance with HOS .
How many training miles did you drive with the trainer in the seat next to you and how many with the trainer in the sleeper ? -
oh I wish it were that easy but its not.slabrunner said: ↑Good luck, Cornelius. No need to line by line argue and bicker though. That is one major gripe I had and in a way still do. You'd think that since we were keepin their truck on the road twice as much as a solo which meant one less truck that than two, we'd get paid better, right? Apparently not.Why not just stick with being a company driver? You weren't really making $.17/mi.? Mexican truckers make around that figure.Click to expand...
It all pretty much boiled down to the fact that as a company solo, you'll get paid more per mile, but you're limited to 500 miles a day. As a team, you get paid half that per mile but since you get paid for your teammates miles also, you basically get paid the same whether you run team or solo. Makes a lot of sense, huh? The same goes for team leasing. 90 cents a mile goes to the truck and each driver gets 45 cents a mile. -

Grow a "skin" or get over it ...

Have no idea what your taxes are, who's doing them, or even where all your tax money is ...
I think the "stupidity" is pretty clear ...
Maybe something you need to get over?corneileous said: ↑If I remeber correctly, you were the one that threw the first swing by assuming I was calling you a friend by referring to you as "pal" and you got all defensive at making sure I was fully aware that you were certainly no friend of mine. Again, more line-by-line rebuttals, and not addressing the obvious problems with your company.
Maybe because you have no defense?
And the more you carry on - it seems more like you're not a "driver" at all - a recruiter maybe?
You seem to have a whole lot of time to post here - for a "team" - you must be seeing a lot of truck stop time... -
well, its been explained several times so I don't know what more to say.
Oh, I understand now. Thanks for that and good luck. I like how you're handling the criticisms that come at you and use them to take apart your business arrangements and analyze them. You'll be wealthier as a result of that process as you go on to make new arrangements. I'll re-read the thread as like you say I must have missed some of the details of your explanation of the lease-op deal w/ CRE. Thanks for posting. --tomLast edited: Feb 2, 2010
