Big doings at the mothership. Today is the day they feed the homeless. The rest of us are out working. Though it’s a nice gesture on the companies part, I just can’t get over the last one I was at 4 years ago. We had what could only be described as low rent drivers going to their truck and coming back with Tupperware to load up on left over pork an beans, in Tupperware that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year. Exactly how much beans can one person eat? The embarrassment I saw that day will make me never hang out at a BBQ ever again.

Given how infrequently I've managed to actually attend one of those "luncheons", I felt absolutely no shame in loading up on a few days of food. It's a "Driver Appreciation Luncheon", after all, so I wanted to make sure I felt fully appreciated for all the "luncheons" I'd missed in the past, and all the ones I will certainly miss in the future. Like this one today, for instance.

I like to think of it as advance on future "luncheons".

Also, "luncheon" is a funny word. You never hear anybody actually say it. Makes me think of blue-haired old ladies with lace doilies on the backs of their overstuffed recliners.

It’s the ‘over speed’ and ‘under speed’ settings.
Basically if you are in cruise, it will allow you to go +5 over the cruise speed, down a hill as example before it will automatically apply the Jake brake. Same thing ‘under speed’ The truck, when in ‘economy’ mode will switch to Neutral at times to save on fuel and when it hits -3 from cruise settings it will reengage the gear and speed back up to cruise setting.
There are other circumstances but you get the idea…..

Currently hauling the Volvo Reno load, but I have hometime starting next Friday so I can't actually deliver it. Would not be able to make it back to Richmond in time. So I am swapping with another driver at a location to be determined. I'll be grabbing his Best Buy load going to Findlay, OH which has around two whole days of extra time on it, but will put me in a better position to get back to Richmond by Thursday.

Hooked the trailer this morning and discovered during the pre-trip that it had no inspection sticker. The chances of me getting pulled over for inspection in Arkansas are pretty slim, so I hit the road anyways. Wanted to get at least three hours of driving under my belt before I called breakdown so I wouldn't have to take two 30-minute breaks today.

Got to Clarksville, AR after 3hrs 20min of driving. They've got a shiny, brand new Love's there with a shiny, brand new Speedco, and I figured there was a reasonable chance they could get me inspected in a reasonable timeframe. Called breakdown to set it up, and come to find out, the trailer was inspected yesterday by the West Memphis shop. They just forgot to put a new sticker on.

So rather than scheduling me for a re-inspection, he just faxed me the work order showing that the inspection had been done. Which, on the one hand, certainly saved me a great deal of time. But, on the other hand, I don't believe these papers will successfully stay with the trailer over the long term. So eventually, getting it re-inspected will become someone else's problem. Which is not how I like to conduct my affairs.

So if you should wind up with trailer #7974 at some point and it's still missing an inspection sticker, blame breakdown, not me.

As a card-carrying Southern boy, I ain't gonna turn my nose up at baked beans. Stop by the Petro and get some cornbread to go with it and I'm in high cotton.

Besides, I'm the only one in this truck, so nobody else is gonna care if I fumigate the place.

You call that "junk" Cornbread? You ain't never had some of mine. First, you need Yelton's Best Cornmeal, made in Spindale, NC, then butter milk, no sugar, from that you are on your own.
