dispatching services

I have looked into a few "dispatch" services. I got the feeling they just wanted to get my information to run a scam. Every one claimed they had there own loads. But refused to show me a sample 7-10 day run.

Nobody needs my bank information to mail a check.

 

Where you located? We rent trailers. When we first started we used dispatch service but it was here and there not a contract every day thing. Then eventually we hired a dispatcher in house that works from home only for us. Sometimes it wasn’t bad we got loads we couldn’t find and other times it didn’t help us at all.

edit: we never gave financial info to the dispatchers. We paid on a per load basis and just transferred or Zelled the money. We basically told them where and when and they found us a load and if we liked or it was better than we could get we booked them. If we found better they wasted their time. So we only paid if they delivered.

edit 2: we also used a broker very heavily that had terrible reviews and a credit score our factoring company wouldn’t accept. It was very risky but over time we were doing about 40% of loads from them. They always paid and was usually higher rates (probably because their credit score) than average freight and we never got burned. There’s tons of ways to get screwed in this industry.

Why would you want to pay a dispatch service, when you can find loads yourself for free?

 

Some don’t like to run a business and just want to drive.

 

Let me tell you how easy dispatching yourself really is. Yesterday I picked up a load going to Milan, TN. I was wanting to go home to N. Alabama. So I started looking for a load around Milan Thursday morning that I could run home with and not eat all the empty miles. Called on a few loads and made offers and couldn’t come to a number that I liked and passed on them. So this morning I got empty and looked one more time and a decent load popped up and I made an offer and the agent jumped on it. It literally took five minutes. I got the rate I wanted and owe no one anything for it. If you go with a dispatch service how much time would they really invest in you for that one load? Would they try to convince you to take one of the lower paying loads while telling you that it’s a bad market? You learn these load boards and you can set the pay, miles, destinations, Deadhead miles ect. It’s really not hard. Most of these load boards also have a weekly average for the lanes that you like. You will not find anyone out there that’s going to look out for you better than yourself. Save your money and dispatch yourself.

 

... i was always under impression that dispatch is literally paying for itself ... for example while I'm securing the load something nice might pop up on the loadboard and since i am busy securing - i missed good load , but dispatch not ...
When i was doing cars - i dispatched myself , never tried to do it with flat/step work , so far i am happy with my dispatch ... especially for the money i pay her

No one is going to look out for your business as much as you potentially can. If you decide to have someone else take over, you already threw in the towel.
