We have been in Williston 3 years now and Texas prior in the 2012 boom. If you are alone you don’t need to worry about hauling a family with you so I can say both places are equal with exception of housing. I still think ND will give you a bigger bang for your buck. We pay $975 for a 3 bdrm and would pay way more in Midland. I also think pay is slightly higher in ND as many guys show up from Midland complaining about this but at same time I think many go back and forth complaining about anything and everything. That’s the oilfield, lol always complaints. I prefer the weather in ND however they can be quite similar at times both can be hot, last summer was horrible in ND and well the winter in ND wasn’t too bad this year with exception of that April storm. I have freezed my butt off in Midland too(btw we were in San Antonio area but were in Midland for other things not living). Now I can say I do like Midland itself. Many don’t but I just thought it had way more to offer in terms of conveniences. Now for the work. Well, good luck on that. It’s always a hit or miss and mostly miss with companies. They can be great one second and evil the next. So many games and unanswered questions. The best thing to do is just try to apply at places, in person, that people say more positive things about. Avoid the ones they mostly complain about as it will probably be true. And then SAVE THAT MONEY! Downturns are your biggest threat and they happen quite often unexpectedly.

We spent a lot of time as O/O in West TX and loved the Big Spring area vs other spots further West. The roads can get rough over between Pecos and Carlsbad and the higher rates get eat up by higher maintenance. We would haul around Big Spring a lot into the Delek facility there and only issue I ever had with roads were some of the county roads had a lot of sand so you had to be aware so you didn't get stuck with a big tow bill!
