Transporting bobtail from state to state

Do I also need USDOT and MC number in addition to the logbook, med card, insurance, and temp tag?

 

If possible, this is the way to go. Any dealer should be well versed in what tags/permits are needed, and will most likely be happy to take care of this detail for you. Now as for insurance, I'm not sure. But I expect you would need to have a policy activated on the trucks VIN number beforehand to be legal.

 

I'm not saying what I did was legal but when I bought my 379, I just drove it home. I took roads that didn't have a DOT presence. The truck CAN be used as a personal vehicle. It's not a commercial vehicle UNTIL you register as such. If you buy any other personal vehicle and have a bill of sale and current automobile insurance, you are fine to transport it home. Some states require a temp tag but not all. So, technically, I would make the argument that if you get a temp tag, you're declaring the truck commercial and you'll need logbooks, etc. IF the vehicle is privately owned, those are the rules you follow. Your choice...until a state official makes a complaint against you (a ticket), I say send it.

Cdl with med card

Log books ARE NOT REQUURED because until you get home and register it as a CMV it isn't a CMV

 

Log books are required as it IS a CMV, I've even showed the regs. Not going to argue though because even what you are saying makes no sense,

Why is a Commercial Drivers License required when you are not driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle?

Either a CDL and logs are required, or neither are required.
I could show you the regs stating a CDL has to be, well commercial but you wouldn't read it anyway.

Commercial vehicles are ONLY "commercial" when registered as such. Otherwise, it's a private vehicle and each state has their own registration/licensing requirements.

 

go for it.... show me a reg that saids a log book is required for a vehicle that IS NOT REGISTERED AS A CMV...

Probably the same reg that siads I need a passanger endorsement to buy a old school bus to drive it home so I can turn it into a motor home right

 

I love how you didn't even comment about needing a CDL, but not a log book. I already said I'm not going over the log book again.
So, again, how is a CDL needed when it's not a CMV?
After all, you keep claiming it;s not a CMV....

 

I'd insure it and claim it was an RV if pulled over and asked.
