On a flat bed with no tarps, 5 gallon cans cleary marked flamable placards on the cans that can easily be seen through shrink wrap, are placards still neccesary. Boss says its over redundent, and he makes sense, but your know.....CYA!

over 1001 lbs. you need placards..less than 1001 lbs. no placards required
-
I understand that, the point is the placards on the cans are just as visable. There is 15 of them on each side of the truck...LOL -
those are labels..not the same as placards...i think the fine is $2500.00 per side that is not placarded..i don't think you or your company wants to pay 10k in fines

PLACARD!!! Those stickers do not meet DOT regulations for placards. Your boss is a fool soon to be separated from his money.

True on most things BUT NOT ALL..
There are some materials that require placards no matter what
the weight is.. -
Like Milk?

The cans most likely have "LABELS" not placards.
If you have more than 8,820 pounds of a single HM on a vehicle you not only need placards you need either orange panels with the UN or the white square on-point placard with the UN.

Keep in mind that with a flatbed load, you can't put placards on the tarps. The placards either have to be in placards holders permenantly affixed to trailer, or holders made and attached to trailer in such a fashion as to be easily visible and capable of staying in place during the trip (ie. a holder can be made with a 2x4 that is hammered into rubrail pocket).
