It's a rollback. How's what he's doing any different than a wrecker hauling a semi truck and trailer at the same time?

More than likely because of the trailer the combination was over length. I imagine permits are required for an exception.

Different states are different. For example in Ohio a semi can only be towed with a trailer attached only long enough to get it off the expressway (safe location) to break it down and use two tow vehicles. (can can be a standard semi for the trailer)

At least that's what I was told one night in Ohio by a tow driver when my fuel gelled up.

Yeah my buddy had a 44ft camper and a 20ft pontoon boat behind it . adding truck to the overall length it was about the same length or longer as his semi. Now he is a truck driver with doubles endorsement so technically qualified to haul that contraption BUT u dont need any of that to do it... Wouldnt wanna be around a 4 wheeler driver behind the wheel of that going down the road, but lots do it because its legal out west.

Where I live you can tow 2 trailers behind a pickup provided that the first trailer uses a 5th wheel connection.

Same thing here but you don't see a lot of it. Most insurance companies won't cover you for the second trailer and you're guaranteed to get stopped by CHP at least once.
For most of the people I see in the mountains one trailer is more than enough. One of our retired drivers pulls a 24' fifth wheel travel trailer and a fourteen foot aluminum boat behind it. He uses an F250 for a tow vehicle. He says it runs alright but isn't great for making quick stops. He'd know.

    D.Tibbitt and bzinger Thank this.

We can't leave the province though. Right at the border into BC there's a huge sign that says "Three vehicle combinations under 11,000 kg prohibited in BC."

I often wondered if I could skirt the law on the fact the tow rig I'm building will exceed the 11,000 kg GVW restriction.
