Trying to get a linehaul gig and they are the first ones to contact me so far. Guy was trying to be really honest about how the miles are really up and down because its extra board. I get that he can't give specifics or guarantees but I was hoping someone here could give more details on what its been like here lately since I know a lot of it depends on the specific terminal. I would love to work for UPS but I have to have some idea of whether I'll be able to pay my bills.. Is there even a ballpark of the minimum amount of money I could expect to make per week?

For what it's worth I'm only averaging 800-900/week gross at my current job and my expenses are around $2k/month. If I can just make enough to cover that I don't mind sticking it out. He also said I can work the docks but that that would be part time hours too. I didn't ask how many hours of dock work I could expect or how much it pays.

I would imagine it’s hard to gauge during these economic times. I imagine a lot would depend on location. @LtlAnonymous might be able to help.

    Thanks for the @.

So I think you'll be able to eek out $800-900 at Louisville. I *believe* they are one if the terminals that has raised their starting pay to $30 per hour, so if you can get maybe three days with some overtime, you're good to go.

Look. I joke about the Brown Vow of Poverty now that I'm making good money, but it wasn't pretty or easy. Streamline your life as best you can, cancel your luxury services like cable, need less money so you can have some wiggle room. It's worth it.

I've talked with guys who "had to quit" during the lean times, and they're kicking themselves for ever leaving.

UPS is an actual career in an industry that has largely become a job. I don't know you or your situation, but my recommendation would be to make it work.

I've been making more and more money in a time where everyone is talking about tightening their belts. And maybe my pay will decrease...but I'm still guaranteed at least $1,700 per week gross. I can make that work, I guess. Lol

My messages are always open, too, if you have any private questions. I'll see you around.

Thanks very much @LtlAnonymous Just to clarify you said Louisville but I'm asking about Knoxville. Was that a typo or are you familiar with the Knoxville terminal?

Oh dang. Typo. Words are hard. Lol

I honestly know NOTHING about Knoxville. You'll have to ask someone local. Either way? It's still worth it. Lol

I used to go in their quite a bit. They had a sizable board and lots of mileage jobs. If they are like many other hubs that are growing like crazy the op should definitely take the job if he can because in a few years he may be in a good spot.

As we both know all too well, it won’t be easy at first but it will be worth it in due time. Those without patience or who have feelings against joining a Union shouldn’t take the job. Everyone else looking for a well paying career should take it if offered.

Take the job, you could always deliver pizzas, or do Uber or other gig work to make it work. Most hubs you get inside rate for working part time in the hub that is around $16 an hour now.
