Still doesn't make it legal. You can give it away or eat it. Just can't sell it.

Wait …
where does it say it is illegal?
if the receiver doesn’t want it, claiming they didn’t order it,
if the shipper says they don’t want it back,
the broker can either pay for disposal or just give it to the driver who can …
Guess what?
Sell it.TheLoadOut, larry2903, Yousername and 6 others Thank this. -
Relatively low risk way to find out if you’re counting your freight or not. Distribution drivers have bait thrown in front of them all the time. Overs and shorts usually happen on the dock. The loader and the driver both either miscount or it didn’t get counted at all. Overs, there’s a chance it’s bait from Risk Management. Count your freight, and if the “material handlers” on the dock look like a bunch of crackheads, count it twice. Once on the dock, and again when you pull out before you close the doors.77fib77 Thanks this.

It should be up to the broker or the shipper, the owner of the product. The last time it happened to me, I took it back to the shipper but it was only 150 miles and they paid exactly the same rate as the one I booked that load for in the first place.
If the distance is too long for them to justify the return rate, then they should let you know via broker what to do. Until then I wouldn't have any ideas but after a day and two at the most, I might start losing patience and some of the ideas advised earlier might come to realization.TheLoadOut Thanks this. -
Is it going to go back to the shipper. Assuming they screwed up and put extra on?
