So doing my first onboarding packet with a service that I know the people well. One strange thing to me he is requesting that the company be put on the insurance as the lien holder. Is this correct process and will this need to be done with all new brokers. thxs

Most brokers will ask to be listed as a certificate holder. So you'll call your insurance company and tell them you're setting up with a new broker and need they want to be listed. Your insurance will ask for name of the broker, their address, and email to send it to them. Make sure they send it to them and you because it's not uncommon for an insurance person on the phone to misspell an email address or something. Some insurers have an online portal so you can do it yourself.

Under no circumstances allow them to be "Additionally Insured", this option costs extra money and has a lot of potential for fallout if something goes wrong. Maybe someone else here can give a caveat to this but for general freight I would skip any broker/load that made the "Additionally insured" request.

Yeah cert holder is pretty common for every major brokerage.

Additionally Insured, in my experience, was only ever done on power only/empty trailer moves and only with one of the manufacturers that I worked with. Needless to say we didnt move much for them as its was a major pain to find carriers and always costs money so not many were willing.

A few brokers have requested to be additionally insured. I process as certificate holder and received rate con.

I don't know what you mean by. Lien holder. That's a term I'm familiar with financing not insurance.
