A company I applied with sent me a copy of the MVR they received...see attachment. Says I was in an accident with 'property damage' in a Genesee County three years ago. I just now realized what this is...it was me getting rear ended by a tractor trailer on my way to work in my personal vehicle. I was not at fault, the semi driver was, he admitted it, was ticketed and in fact I got a small , low five figure settlement from it 7 months later.
But there it is as a black mark on MY mvr. Sure, if an employer wanted to dig further into it they would be given the truth, but even if they went to the trouble they wouldn't necessarily ACCEPT it as the truth...and more likely they'd just see it as a black mark against me and inquire no further.
Anyone else have a similar situation or know when such info might 'drop off' an MVR ?
Seems extremely unlikely that I can do anything about it.
Damaging info on MVR...I got hit from behind by a truck.

I would get a copy of that police report from Genesee county, if it shows the accident was no fault of yours, show that to the prospective employer as proof...Magoo1968, Another Canadian driver, wis bang and 5 others Thank this.

I would go one step further, petition the court to remove it.sevenmph, Geekonthestreet, Val_Caldera and 5 others Thank this.

New York puts an accident on the MVR of every driver involved, regardless of fault. Just being on the MVR does not indicate fault, and I don't think there's any way to get them to take it off before 3-years is up from the date of the accident. You need to get the accident report to prove you were not at fault.

That’s crap.
Did it ever occur to this company that “property damage” could also be taken to mean YOUR property??
Sounds like a bunch of people I personally wouldn’t want to work for if that’s the kind of chicken #### they’ll pull.Hammer166, JolliRoger, Gearjammin' Penguin and 6 others Thank this. -
1st, to the o/p....you just "realized" you had an accident..??
don't you jot that stuff down? on the application..??
didn't you keep any record(s) of this happening to you..???
personal car or not. you forgot to jot that down on the application, and this can be seen as lying on that application regarding any accidents.
2nd, to Mack..........see above reason for the company giving him some sheit about this....
had he jotted down that accident on his application? i doubt anything would have come from it, cuz now, it does seem like he "hid" that from them.
don;t we always tell newbies to be "honest"..... and fill in the blanks..????Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
That is sensible advice of course, but many employers will see something like that and they won't be interested in hearing any further.JonJon78 and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

a copy of the police report, "should have" been submitted when you filled out the application.
it is YOUR responsibility to keep records, and then provide any sort of proof as needed.
basically, as i said, you "hid this accident" from them.....they ain';t gonna want you now, or even wanna hear from you again.
your NEXT application..??
have a copy of that police report, and JOT IT DOWN, on the applications.....Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
No company is giving me #### about this...only you.
The company I applied to got the MVR and forwarded me a copy with no further comment.
The online application asked questions and I answered them. I did not 'jot' extra information that they didn't ask for.
I'm not a 'newbie'...as I said I was employed in trucking, on my way to work at my previous company, when this happened.Val_Caldera, Another Canadian driver and GreenPete359 Thank this. -
It's not a company that I have any issue with.
I don't know that this specific company I applied to is holding this against me at all.
I only applied with them yesterday.
It's the state that puts out this info.
I think it's unfortunate that, not just me, but anyone who is in an accident through no fault of their own
will have what to SOME employers will be seen as disqualifying information on their record.
Some companies, a certain percentage, won't want or need any more info than you see right there.
This level or manner of 'reporting' is news to me because I hadn't seen it before.
It's the first accident that ever showed up on my DVR,
and I had no occasion to see it until now because I wasn't applying for a new job until now.Val_Caldera and Another Canadian driver Thank this.
