I’m hauling fuel and I’ve gotten dispatched wanting 9000 gallons of gas, even some splits with 6000 unleaded 3000 Diesel and I’ve cut back the Diesel gallons because I’m positive there’s no way that’s not overweight. DOT was doing random inspections outside the gates of a fuel rack and those dot cops are like vultures. But my company is run by idiots who’ve never hauled fuel themselves and I’m thinking they don’t care if driver gets overweight ticket. Some shifts I drive Volvo, sometimes Peterbilt, I’m not sure which is heavier, day cabs not sleepers

. I’ll have to just pony up a few bucks of my own and start weighing these loads.

What’s your maximum gallons hauled, ever pay to weigh your own truck to make sure?

    Thanks

Flat Earth Trucker and tscottme Thank this.

You sound wise. Even if the company pays the money for an overweight ticket, or some other violation, nobody in the company can transfer PSP points from your CDL to theirs.

It might be better to weigh the Volvo plus trailer empty and also the Pete plus trailer empty, subtract those empty weights from 80,000 lbs or state max and at least know how much fuel weight you can add to get to 80K. When you load are you told the weight per gallon or specific gravity for the product?

6.1 lbs for gas. 7.1 lbs for diesel. These numbers will fluctuate. It's not just gross weight, it's how the compartments are loaded. Best to get it scaled on the first load and then get the rest of the loads that day weighed at the reweigh price.

If your company isn't willing to pay for the scale, they really aren't interested in protecting their drivers.

There’s nothing on the B.O.L that gives the weight but you can google the weight per gallon, but need to know exact weight of tractor trailer as they seem to vary in weight and I slip seat a lot. Company is run by the dumbest managers I’ve ever seen, my boss sends out group text and it’s like reading text from a 12 yr old that’s in special needs class.

I load 8500 gallons of AvGas a lot.
Last time I scaled I was only 78K gross.

    Of course not.
    1. There are no such things as PSP points to begin with.
    2. Overweight tickets don't go on the css/psp system, even if it's a violation on a cvsa inspection report.

That said, the citation likely will be in the driver's name and even if the company pays for it the driver is on the hook if it never gets paid.

We always hauled a maximum of 8900 gas or 7800 diesel.
