For me all these routes have hills, mountains like all roads in the West.
I think 212 being a 2 lane with passing lanes, you may find a slow RV which gets frustrating. I didn't pay attention you will be 100,000, the big road might be the better route.

Wyoming, Montana scale on I-90 has a very large (overnight allowed) parking area . There is a lot of stops along 90 in Montana.
    Good luck

Im pretty certain im gonna go the I-90 route. I got smart and looked and YouTube at a guy driving Homestake Pass....... It doesnt look %7-9 percent at all(the climb headed westbound). The pass at the ID/MT border going down looks to be a long grade.... Im pretty excited to be headed that way. The scenery looks awesome! I cant wait to take my break out there somewhere.

Haugen Mt is a nice place to stop. Its about twenty miles from the Idaho border and two miles from the scales. Its called the silver dollar bar. They have a restraunt and a bar too as well as a convience store.

I always top off my tanks in Missoula (Wye) exit 96. They have everybody there, Ambest, TA, Town Pump (Flying J) and Loves. Plenty of parking.
Most of the passes have pull off areas on top.
Idaho seems like it is all up and down on I-90.
Enjoy the ride. It is scenic.

I read somewhere where Homestake was like almost 25 miles?? When I think "pass" I think long down or upgrade...

If you're looking for white knuckle, downhill fun, try pulling that 100k from Flagstaff to Phoenix in the middle of the summer.

It’s less then ten miles. At least the hard pull up and down, in my opinion.

it might feel like 25 miles when your heading East because the truck speed limit is only 25 while the car speed limit is 70. Seems like a horrible idea to me.
