I worked at Holland (Yellow now) for 3 years 4 years ago and still talk to guys I used to work with weekly. I ran linehaul out of Minneapolis. As someone said, the central states pension fund is in serious trouble. You only get 25% of what you should get, and we got a letter from central states 6 years ago saying the pension fund would be out of money in 10 years. The company is constantly asking the union for pay givebacks which the union is only too willing to give. Trucks are governed at 62mph. The medical insurance is fully co paid and is actually pretty good. The pay is on the low side of what most LTLs pay. Short term, if you cant find something better, take it but dont count on it long term.

As far as where else to look, Estes has a yard about 20 mi north of Madison in Columbus. If I ever decide to sell my truck, I wouldnt mind going back there. I ran linehaul for them for 2 years before I went to Holland.

Tax Air has a yard in DeForest not far from the TA truckstop. I did linehaul as a temp for them for a couple of years oh God maybe 12 years ago? Something like that. They werent too bad, but I couldnt tell you what kind of bennies they have, as I said I was a temp.

Which is another thing to look at. I worked for a temp outfit for 2 years and that was actually better than it sounds. I had 5 different companies that used to ask for me specifically that I would run for, and if I didnt want to work a given night (I prefer nights) I didnt. Pay wasnt bad either.

YRC has been going out of business for over a decade now. I was all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when I got hired by them, thinking I was going to retire from there. Turned out it was just going to be a two-year cup of coffee thanks to the 2009 Great Layoff.

Can't say I recommend them. Lol

I wound up at ABF, but left for less work and more money. ABF is a TOUGH place to work. They expect a lot of your life.

YRC has been going out of business since the 1980's at least. Not going to happen. Back then YRC drivers were complaining about having to find a new company soon and the gates will be locked any day now.

YRC had a refrigerated logistics division for several years. That was maybe 25 years ago; since been sold about 20 yrs. ago. I drove for that division. Really enjoyed my time there. One time in the Carolinas I was making a delivery and a couple of Yellow drivers approached me and asked if I'd found a new job yet. They said the doors will be locked in a few days and we'll all be unemployed. I told them that's been going on for decades and Yellow isn't going out of business. I said that one thought I had at the time is, big investors use scare tactics like that to drive the stock price down. They then buy $100s of millions of dollars worth of stock and then sell it when the price goes back up. This happens in cycles with Yellow and a good way for wealthy investors to make even more money.

Good story. I used to work for USF Dugan and was in their profit sharing program. I was only there 16 months, so I didnt accumulate much stock.

Long story short, I still own that stock. It is now Yellow stock after YRC bought out USF. That stock is litterally worth 1 cent now. It is a percentage of 1 share.

I own more stock in Yellow than the entire board of Yellow right now.

I never bought stock in any company I worked for. Never buy stock in a company you work for that controls the stock is what I was taught.
