I'm based out of Las Vegas, NV. 14 years of experience. Started to look into this company as my possible next employer. Talked to a recruiter. Haven't put in an app yet. Everything she told me they would likely offer sounds great, just what I'm looking for.
Although she was kind of vague about their (snow) chaining policy. She said it depends on the load, when it delivers, and if the roads are drivable or not. To which, one can discern that kind of sounds like yeah, they want drivers to chain up and keep moving, so long as the roads are open. But, she being a recruiter, not wanting to lose a prospective driver, of course, wouldn't fully commit to simply straight up saying "yes we ask drivers to chain up when conditions require it to continue driving".
She also said they offer western regional, which is out 1 week at a time. Home on weekends. Not just a 34, but two whole days off. Which of course, always sounds great. But tbh, I wonder whether or not I could make enough $ that way, just 5 days out at a time, on likely some short runs, designed to keep me close to home . It is .80/mile, but even still, that doesn't add up to all that much if I'm only being dispatched on maybe 2k miles/week. The other option is traditional OTR, out 2-3 weeks, home 2-3 days. The old familiar bread and butter for me. I've done western regional before as well, but out for more like 10-14 days at a time.
So to get to the point. If anybody has driven for this small company of 150 trucks in their fleet. What's your experience been like? What do you feel prospective drivers should know about? What's your experience been during winter, especially if you're on the western regional side, and have been at Vail, Donner, Cabbage, Snoqualmie, etc, when the chain restrictions went up or roads closed. What was your experience with dispatch like when that did happen? Also, do they give you the option of staying out longer on the western side, if or when you want to? Or is it more like a set, hard and fast schedule, that they run every driver home, every weekend?
Thanks for your time.
