my husband started with western about amonth ago and i can honestly say in the 11 years we have been dealing with trucking this is by far the worst compnay we have dealt with...lies lies and more lies...my husband is right now trying to get close enough to home to quit...in a month he hasnt been near home at all..i would only advise this company as a last resort..there are plenty better ones out there and had my husband not been laid off and desprite to find work we would have never gone with this one...

I dont know why anybody would want to run otr with what these companies are paying you would be better off flipping burgers at mcdonalds and be home every night
trucker43 Thanks this. -
It sounds like the main complaints are not enough home time. The pay seems to be fixed if you call the office and tell them you didn't get a paycheck. I am not sure which complaint is worse......not enough home time or not enough miles.
-
Not enough hometime is pretty accurate, depending on your dispatcher. I don't have a problem getting miles, especially in flatbed. I run between 2500 - 3200 per week. I told my dispatcher that I did not care when she got me home. I don't really have anything to come home to. often times i get a chance to come home because of the areas i tend to run, i often just pass through.

Western Express is a company that serves a purpose. They are there to take on drivers who have had problems. I was in that situation and they hired me. I have since gotten everything off my record that was hindering me before and have moved on. The pay is at the bottom end of the scale and the miles depend on who your dispatcher is. Good ones are few and far between there. I had a good one and for whatever reason he was gone within a year of me hiring on there. The replacement was clueless to put it mildly.
Also anytime you go into the Nashville terminal you have an inspection at the gate. Anything they deem needs taking care of must be fixed before you can leave. Good luck on that since most times it takes a couple of days at least to get into that shop. Then you have to get a gate pass and a log pass as well. Get ready to run the east coast and particularly the northeast. Anybody with experience and a good record would do well to just pass them by.
I can also say that after having made the deal to purchase SMX they finally paid them off after being threatened with legal action. The money came from Knoght Transportation who loaned them the money and then acted as a consultant for a while causing more changes in the company. Many former SMX customers refused to do business with Western after the takeover. -
Brett08 = I work for them on the 11 western states. No problems with pay, decent miles, no real issues. A lot of it is just your attitude and disposition.
