I was thinkin the same thing. Personally I think even 35 miles an hour is too fast for icy roads regardless if you're loaded heavy or light. Plus, it aint a sin to use chains. I dont know how many times while sittin on that stretch of I-20 east of Abilene in that wicked snowstorm they got right before Christmas I heard over they radio about people havin chains on their truck, but they were gonna be ###### if they used them.... With that bein said, you deserve to be in the ditch jacknifed....

I normally run down into Southern Va but Con-way Freight shut down all hub and meet/turn operations Friday night in that region. That pushed me into Pittsburgh and when I got on I70 in Md I saw some trucks caked with stuff that made me nevous just thinking about it..
I hope everyone stayed safe - really, I do.. -
Stand on 'er and hope the guy in front of you doesn't chicken out!!

I have a tip for you, you should have never been on the road in those conditions. Smart drivers would have parked it, you got lucky. Hope you learned your lesson.

That's what I was thinking. If I ever see my trailer start to break traction and come around I will be parked at the closest safe place getting paid by the hour. That load can be late.

I've got a freind that him and his wife are stuck in the truck stop in southern VA because they got 11" of snow in half a day. He said guys' landing gear looked like huge ice cubes hanging from their trailers...

I've been parked at a small fuel station since yesterday. Taking my 34 hrs. Supposed to p/up tomorrow morning in Memphis, TN but not leaving tomorrow unless co. lift mandatory shutdown on I-40 and parts of I-55. Walked 2 miles on ice yesterday just to have french fries at the closest McDonald's and left truck parked. Another truck got stuck last evening at the station where I am and I gave him a nudge so he could move.... Can't wait for this freaking season to end.

I won't be gaining any winter driving experience tonight.. Last Friday Con-way shut down the night line-haul operations in Virginia, tonight they shut down the entire Mid-Atlantic region and some areas of the Northeast.
I know the decision is based on money, but I still give Con-way credit for making the proper decision to shut it down. We have to run early Sunday morning, but that beats running tonight.
